TRADE FIGURES TO BE INCLUDED IN 1930 CENSUS More Than 100,000 Persons Will Be Engaged in Decennial Task. The most comprehensive census in the history of the nation will be taken in April, according to Delbert O. Wilmeth, Indiana census supervisor. Thirty items of information must be placed beside the name of ea<2i individual. Unlike the earliest census which concerned itself only with the enumeration, the 1930 census includes .statistics on unemployment, agriculture, irrigation, drainage, manufacturing, mining and distribution. The latter subject is actually a census of trade, undertaken to obtain statistics of goods sold by merchants and dealers, wholesale and retail, and t,h number of persons employed in trade. Areas Defined More than 100.000 men arid women will be employed in the compilation, going from house to house to collect and record the information required regarding each family, individual and farm. They will be under the immediate direction of 574 supervisors, each of whom will have under his charge an average of about 175 enumerators. But in the individual cases the number will range all the way from no’ more than thirty enumerators in sparsely settled sections of the country to as many as 450 in large cities. As the enumerator must be given a defined area to canvass it is necessary to divide and map the country into about 120,000 enumeration districts. Starts April 2 Preparatory work has required the employment in the census bureau at Washington of more than 200 clerks and draftsmen working for more than a year under i the direction of the geographer of the census. The census will begin on the morning c. f April 2. The enumerators, as a rule, will be paid on the basis of the.number of persons and farms enumerated, the amount varying according to conditions. In the 1920 census nearly all of the enumerators w r ere paid four cents for each name and thirty cents for each farm.
