De Frantz, secretary of the Senate avenue branch Y. M. C. A . Thursday, at the graduating exercises of School 4. of which Mrs. Mary E. Cable is principal. The subject was arranged to use the first letters of the surname of thirteen nationally known Negro leaders, whose initials would represent “Character Wins." Names of individuals and titles used, in which members of the class participated in unraveling, included George Carver, scientist; Roland Hayes, singer; Crispus Attuclis, patriot; Paul Robeson, actor; Robert S. Abbott, publisher; Countee Cullen, poet; Watt Terry, business; William Ellis, first surgeon; 7. B. Ransom, business and lawyer. The word “Wins’’ was arranged as follows: Mme. C. J. Walker, manufacturer; Elmer Imes. physicist; Will C. Nell, historian; William E. Scott, painter. Party for Graduates Attributes necessary for character building wore used in the same manner as follows: Cleanliness. honesty, ambition, refinement, application, courage, tact, economy, responsibility and work, imagination, neatness, smile and service.
