MEXICO SEVERS RELATIONS WITH SOVIET RUSSIA Government Closes Legation in Moscow, Formally Cuts Off Ties. BY JOHN R. MORRIS rnlted Press Staff Correspondent MEXICO CITY, Jan. 24. The first Soviet legation in the western hemisphere was closed here today and interest was centered in the reaction from Moscow to Mexico's severance of diplomatic relations with Russia. The summary announcement that the recent recurrence of Communists’ attacks on Mexican embassies In Washington, Buenos Aires and Rio De Janeiro had forced the government to close its legation in Moscow and formally break off diplomatic relations caused a flurry In the capital. The Mexican government de- j clared, however, that the attacks, ! as well as other manifestations of : unfriendliness toward Mexico, has ; made it impossible to continue its i policy of tolerance. In recent weeks Mexico has deported several groups of alleged •foreign Communists and agitators and imprisoned numerous Mexicans j on similar charges. An official statement declared I the Mexican government had attempted to maintain friendly relations toward the Soviet, but that this was unreciprocated by Russia. The immediate cause of the break, it is believed, was a Communist demonstration outside the Mexican embassy In Rio De Janeiro on Tuesday, when forty Reds, throwing stones> at the building, shouted: "Down with Mexico! The government of Mexico is sold to the clericals and North American imperialism!" RADIO FANS TO HEAR STRADIVARIUS VIOLIN Rare Instrument Will ftp Taken to Studio in Armored Car. ADVERTISING IS PRAISED Dr. Stanley Coulter lauds Work in Uplifting Civilization. Advertising has done much to uplift. our civilization by showing men and women the things and services they need and by creating many new necessities of life, Dr. Stanley Coulter of the research department of Ell Lilly & Cos., former dean of Purdue university, declared in an address on “What I Think of Advertising.” to the Advertising Club of Indianapolis at the Columbia Club Thursday. “Many persons." he said, “continue in the same old rut of existence, but. the advertising men and women are compelled to keep their eyes on new horizons and then present their visions of better things to their more submerged brethren of life Advertising is the forerunner of creative thinking on the part of the mass of people of society.” Columbus Woman Dies Pv Times Special COLUMBUS, Tnd., Jan. 24.—Mrs. Linnie Myrtle Scott, 45. widow of F-d Scott and lifelong resident of Bartholomew county, is dead, after a four months’ illness.
