hands and knees, with your body horizontal above the floor. 2. Keeping both your hands in place and your head well up, raise your left leg high in the air and backward. Stretch it up as far as you possibly can. Hold a second and stretch it again. 3. Then return to knee stand and change legs. Raise the right leg high in the air and backward and stretch it. To get the proper stretch through the waistline and the leg. keep your head well up. Do this exercise five times on each leg. It is necessary to keep, the head well up and really stretch the leg to its utmost to get the best results. But when well done, this exercise is an excellent aid to suppleness as well as a weight reducer.

OIL MAN DRAWN INTO ROW OVER CUSTOMS CHIEF Anti-Saloon League Heads Hurl Charges at Herbert Pratt. Bv United Press NEW YORK, Jan. 23.—Herbert L. Pratt, chairman of the board of the Standard Oil Company of New York, stood accused today by G. Rowland Munroe, counsel for the AntiSaloon League of New Jersey, of having paid $14,400 to have $25,000 worth of champagne smuggled into the country last spring. Munroe, who forwarded this, among other allegations, to President Hoover in the New Jersey AntiSaloon League’s fight to prevent the re-appointment of Colonel Arthur F. Foran, New Jersey Republican to the post of controller of customs here, also charged that Pratt admitted his guilt and surrendered the liquor. Neither Philip Elting, collector of customs of the port of New York, nor any of his colleagues, imposed a fine of $16,000 or other penalty on Pratt for his alleged law violation, Munroe alleges. Asa result, the Anti-Saloon League of New Jersey demands the

It’s ‘MV’Now Bu United Press PARIS, Jan. 23.—Another old phrase of the sea is doomed. For the first time, the French line, in announcing the sailing of its new liner Lafayette, refers to it as the “MV Lafayette,” instead of the “S. S. Lafayette.” The “MV” stands for motor vessel. This designation is to be used on all motor-driven liners. Technically, of course, they are not steamships.
