This new independence and national spirit of China is sweeping aside centuries-old prejudices.” Air Mail Figures An indication of the large amount of airmail carried through night skies while the world sleeps is given in operations figures for 1029 just made public by National Air Transport. During last year this service flew 2,646,966 miles, of which 1,270.668 were flown during the dark hours. Correct Posture Needed to Get Supple Waistline 'Rounding the 1930 Curves
An everclse to Improve the posture Is described today by Jac Auer, noted body culturlst and health advisor to New York's "Four Hundred." This Is the sec-, .ond of a series of eighteen articles on ‘ Rounding the 1830 Curves’ which Auer Is writing for The Indianapolis Times and NEA Service. BY' JACK AUER Written for NEA Service Slenderness alone will not give that supple, curving waistline that women need for their new clothes. Posture goes hand in hand with alimness to create the desired contours of beauty. If a woman does not hold herself right, there develops an unattractive thickness through the body that is shown up to disadvantage by the 1930 styles. Too, a body slump often causes that unsightly "middle-aged’’ roll of fat across the shoulders at the base of the neck. Here Is Simple Exercise There is a simple exercise that one can do a few minutes each morning which corrects posture by expanding the chest and raising it, simultaneously contracting the stomach and straightening out the shoulder roll. Do it as follows: 1. Stam. erect, then lift arms ovep with shoulders, and fold them in front, in a straight line with the shoulders. Throw the weight or one foot and lift the other until the knee is on a straight line with the hip, toe pointed downward. Breathe regularly while doing this exercise. 2. Hold the position a second, change feet, and repeat. Be careful about keeping the arms and leg high enough, and keep the shoulders pack, backbone in normal straight line, and chest up. Repeat from ten to six times, after you have taken the first morning exercise of stretching and breathing. This exercise limbers lip the body as it corrects posture and is an excellent second movement in the eighteen-day exercise schedule. Next: A waist reducing exercise.

Excess acid Is the common cause of indigestion. It results in pain and sourness about two hours after eating. The quick corrective is an alkali which neutralizes acid. The best corrective is Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia. It has remained standard with physicians in the fifty years since its invention. One spoonful of Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia neutralizes instantly many times its volume in acid. It is harmless and tastless and its action is quick. You will never rely on crude

REVOLT ATTEMPT FAILS Rebel Chief Unsuccessful in Effort to Gain Popular Support. Ftp United Press MONTEVIDEO. Uruguay, Jan. 14. —lt appears certain here the attempt by Nepomuceno Saravia to arouse the people to revolt against the present government has failed. The Saravia plot, hatched in the northern provinces in the vicinity of Rivera, failed partly because the rebel leader failed to gain popular support and partly due to the fact the government sent troops north as soon as reports of impending trouble reached the capital.

NEW CASINO TO BE BUILT AT MONTECARLO Luxurious Gaming Palace Will Be Made Annex of Monaco. BY' RALPH HEINZEN t'nited Press Staff Correspondent MONTE CARLO, Jan. 14.—The gambling barons of Monte Carlo are not giving up to Frank Jay Gould and the other encroaching gambling kings of Nice and Cannes without a struggle, and there exists, on paper, anew Monte Carlo casino, which will be the most luxurious palace ever built since the Rome of the Caesars. The new gambling palace in reality will be an annex to the famous old gambling house of Monaco. It will be only for those who can afford high stakes. There will be many features not often associated with gambling rooms, such as steamroom and Turkish bath to brighten up players and croupiers after a hard night’s labor. Monte Carlo has been hard hit by San Remo and the new Gould palace at Nice, but Monte Carlo has seen hard days before and always comes through with the annual balance sheet in black ink. The winter has been marked by the quality and not the quantity of play along the Riviera. There never have been such high stakes before. An Italian player recently approached the roulette table and asked if he could play two SI,OOO chips at a time. He was told that he could play only SI,OOO or $2,500 at a time, in accordance with rules of the table. He decided to play $2,500 stakes and played all the time on the red. It turned up seventeen times in a row and he won $40,000.
