MR TO LINER. MILES AT SEA, FROM AIRPLANE Reporters, Beil Technicians Conduct Test Through Relay System. sty United Pres* NEW YORK. Dec. 22.—Radiophone has made it possible for persons in an airplane in flight to communicate with a ship, hundreds of miles at sea. Two reporters and five technicians of the Bell Telephone laboratories Sunday successfully carried on a conversation from a Ford tri-motor, 3,000 feet above New York, with passengers aboard the steamer Leviathan, 700 miles at sea and bound for New York. Admittedly because of stage fright, most of the conversations centered around the weather, which every one agreed was fine. Those aboard the Leviathan to speak with the pasengers in the “flying telephone booth” were Commodore Cunningham, J. L. R. Van Meter, General traffic manager of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and Roy W. Howard, chairman of the board of the Scripps-Howard newspapers. A unique feature of the demonstration was the exchange of greetlngs between Captain A. Roy Brooks
