Miss Mary Welch, whose marriage to George Smith will take place Christmas day at 4:30, was the honor guest at a surprise shower and party given Friday night by Mrs. Harold Kohlmeyer, 3025 Broadway. Guests were members of Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, of which Welch is a member. The party was in conjunction with the sorority Christmas party. Members of the Indiana Woman’s Republican Club will give their annual Christmas party at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Columbia Club. Mrs. Maud Ogborn is chairman of the entertainment committee and Mrs. Carl Wisenberg is in charge of the musical program. Miss Gertrude Pyler will give a group of readings. Troop 31 gave the program at afternoon vespers at. the Broadway Evangelical church last Sunday. Troop 34 will start after the holidays. Announcement of time will be sent to each girl. Troops 8, 20 and 23 held a Christmas party at School 66 Friday. The program included games, refreshments and a grab bag. Troop 7 entertained mothers of the troop at a Christmas party last Monday. The girls of this troop will carol Monday night. New candidates are: Troop 39, Clara McClosky; Troop 28, Sylvia Harrison, Mary Rachel Shideler, Marguerite Mattox, Virginia Graves, Dorothy Jean Bond, Virginia Burrows; Troop 22, Mary Ann Stone. Girls in Troop 22 are collecting toys to be given to city hospital patients. Girls of Troop 42 will go caroling on Christmas eve. They also will enjoy a Christmas party Monday afternoon. A number of troops have converted their meetings into Christmas parties this week. Among them are: Troop 30, which meets at School 43; Troop 3, meeting at Nora school; Troop 36, at Prentice Presbyterian church; Troop 29. at McCarty street branch library; Troop 9, at Orchard school, and Troop 13, at Kirschbaum center. Troop 14 made cretonne bags for sewing kits to be given to the patients at Robert Long hospital. Girls from Troops 7 and 28 will go to the Robert Long hospital the day before Christmas to decorate the Christmas trees in the wards. The leaders' training class will not hold another meeting until Jan. 6 on account of the holidays. The January court of awards will be hel<j at the Broadway Methodist Episcopal church. One Scout is to receive her Golden Eagle at that time, so all Scouts are asked to be present. All blue cards must be in the office by Jan. 4. Don’t forget the two days at camp, Jan. 2 and 3. Be sure that - you dress warmly. Each girl will bring her own lunch, and a hot drink will be furnished for everyone. A grand good time is promised all who come. Troop 1 will change their meeting day to Tuesday at 3:30 p. m. The next meeting will be the first Tuesday after vacation.

Mrs. Milo H. Stuart will read an original story, "Christmas Bells in Old Testament Times,” at the mid-week services at the First Presbyterian church Thursday night. The story will be illustrated by songs composed by Mrs. Cora Young Wiles and sung by Mrs. Walker Baylor, accompanied by Mrs. Wiles. Indorsers to Give Annual Apple Show Each year, beginning a few days before Christmas and continuing until after the New Year, the Indianapolis Indorsers of Photoplays sponsor potato and apple matinees at neighborhood theaters. Managers of each theater cooperate with the organization and every child is admitted into the theater upon the presentation of either an apple or potato or some other vegetable. Thes are distributed to the worthy poor families in the vicinity of each theater. The Parent-Teachers’ Association also assist the Indorsers and Mrs. H. C. Bertrand, chairman of the neighborhood theaters, is in charge of all arrangements. This is the fifth year the Indorsers have given these matinees. Old English Christmas Party Held
An Old English Christmas party was given Thursday night in the woman’s dining room of the Columbia Club by members of the Indianapolis Altrusa Club. The mantel of the fireplace was festooned with greenery. The room was lighted with old lanterns. The gifts, exchanged by members, were concealed in a yule log near the fireplace. Following dinner, Christmas carols were sung to the Old English custom of "drinking of wassail” by the eighty members attending. The dinner tables were lighted with red tapers and decorated with greenery. Sixteen boy carolers from Technical high school, in black robes and white surplices, sang during the dinner. A quartet from Indiana Central college also gave a musical program. Members made their contributions to charity. The main feature of the program was a Christmas pageant, “The Magi of the West and Their Search for the Christ.” Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Boyle was reader. Musical accompaniment was played by Mrs. Christine Houseman Donaldson, pianist, and Miss Lucille Springer, cellist. Mrs. Ruth Sterling Devin, soprano, sang during the pageant. The committee in charge, headed by Mrs. Bernice Henley, was composed of Mrs. May Houser, Mrs. Cleora C. Doane, Mrs. Nelle Warren, Miss Eva Btoreh, Miss Irene Boughton, Mis* Brown, Miss Jessie E. Howes to Give Afternoon Tea for Children

Miss Jane Nichol, Paducah, Ky., is the guest of Miss Antoinette Langsenkamp, 1910 North Pennsylvania street. Miss Josephine Madden is entertaining with a small dinner for her tonight. Miss Langsenkamp will give a supper Sunday night.

Club Holds First Event on Schedule The holiday affairs, planned by the Meridian Hills Country Club, opened this afternoon with a children's Christmas party at the club house. As the children arrived, they registered in a large red book, listing their wishes for Santa Claus. Oames were played from 3 to 4, with Mrs. George L. Ramey assisting at the piano. During that hour, Mrs. Rex C. Boyd told Christmas stories to the younger children. A motion picture of “The Night Before Christmas,” was shown. Ira A. Minnlck, dressed as Santa Claus, arrived at 4 in his sleigh to distribute gifts and candy canes to the children. Mrs. James L. Murray was in charge of the party, assisted by Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Alexander D. Lange and Mrs. Lawrence V. Sheridan. A formal dance for junior children of members and their guests will be given at 8:30 Friday night at the club house. The committee in charge is composed of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Collins, chairmen, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krull, and Mr. and Mrs. George L. Ramey. The annual formal dinner bridge party, one of the largest parties of the season, will be held Saturday night, Dec. 27. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Flood, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. McCann, and Mr. and Mrs. Howe S. Landers are in charge of the affair. The closing event of the holiday season for the club will be a tea and open house on New Year's day, with officers and members of the board of directors receiving. . Christmas Fete Will Be Given at Sanitarium Members of the Children’s Sunshine Club will entertain Tuesday afternoon with a Christmas party for the children at Sunnyside sanitarium. The room will be decorated with I bells, miniature Christmas trees and j red and green lights. A large | decorated tree will hold a stocking J filled with fruit, candy and nuts, j a personal gift and a yo-yo for each child. The tea table will be decorated | with toy Santa Clauses and an arti- | ficial snow scene. A playlet, I "Santa Claus III” will be given by | the following children of the sanl- ! tarium: Virginia Patterson. Frances Brown, Catherine Boggs, Marie Mahan, Leonard Hawkins, Charles Walton, George Hoffman and David Hinton. Mrs. Frank P. Coyle is general chairman, assisted by Mrs. Frank A. Gritt, Mrs.-Harry L. Kern, Mrs. D. E. Pickett, Mrs. M. L. Clawson, Mrs. J. F. Herrmann, Mrs. Norbert Fox and Mrs. Harry Grimes.
SORORITY PLEDGES TO GIVE TEA SUNDAY
Pledges of Omicron chapter, Chi Sigma sorority, will entertain with a Christmas tea Sunday afternoon at the home of Miss Mary Thompson, 5830 Central avenue. Hostesses with Miss Thompson are Miss Ruth Egan, Miss Mary Frances Egan, Miss Mary Lou Finnegan, Miss Mary Agnes Griffin, Miss Winifred Kavanaugh, Miss Hilda Rathz and Miss Madeline Russell.
