Men! Don’t Let Women Abuse You BY MARTHA LEE One of the fatal mistakes any young man makes In wooing any girl is to treat her as he has heard other chaps treat their girls. Every girl is an Individual character, who is won by attention, especially suited to her type. For instance: Mafiy a man has aroused the Interest of an indifferent woman by paying her ardent court, by camp- ■ ing on her doorstep, so that every time she turns around he Is at her heels. She finally surrenders, perhaps because she becomes so accustomed to his devotion she can not do without it. More likely because she has given up hope of ever shaking him any other way. On the other hand, many a man. who stands a fair chance of winning the hand of the girl he loves, drives her completely away from the altar by pursuing her too closely. Just as there are men who like girls who are aggressive along the path of love <which is rare exception) so are there girls who like the chase well enough to want to do a little of it themselves. Like Indifferent Men They like indifferent men. Men who, when they are treated shabbily, will assume a stand of independence and maintain it. Men who. when they feel they have been wronged, will close the door and never open it again, until the girl has repented properly. And here is an iron clad rule. No girl can love any man who does not love his 6ense of pride and self respect. No girl can love any maji she can make a sap of. Dear Miss Lee—For several weeks, my younic lady friend and I have been arguing. First, her Indifference for two weeks had made me feel I was not wanted. Then one night she made remarks which hurt ray feelings, so I left abruptly. The following Wednesday night, our regii}ar date night, she was not at home. fWe previously had arranged that I should fee her on Thursday. That morning, she ifcalled to say that she had a cold and ' "'ould prefer to postpone the engagement. The next Wednesday she made another excuse. I was to see her the following Sunday. which I did. The next Wednesday I was supposed to have a date with her. She sent word that she had to work and that I should come Sunday. However I vent over Thursday night. She treated me rudely. She Is 52 and I am 24. I have loved her dearly for six months, although I have nown her longer than that. The girl Tnows I love her, but has said she does rot. know her own mind. I am to blame dhr part of this, because I have not been ■ well, and perhaps not as entartalnEug as I might be. i My surmise Is that there Is anew face on the horizon and that her anger Is dye to the fact that, other plans were thwarted' when I came over. I realize that mistrust Is the cause of much trouble. A little sign, a little encouragement from this girl would make me love her even more. I am not Jealous now and 1 do not seem to care what happens. That night she "stood me up" seems to have killed all my faith In her womanhood. I am wondering whether it Is worth while. Am I being used for a fool, or does she think because of my love, she can treat me like a child? JAMES. Dear, dear, and so near Christmas too. Well. James, your mistake was made when you took more than one of those stand-ups from her, call them what you may. No boy with any backbone would have. Likes ’Em Strong-Minded If you were my boy friend, I would have no respect for you if I could pull the wool over your eyes. But if I pulled the wool over your eyes, and I knew you knew what I was doing and still took it, I most certainly would give you the runaround A girl wants a fellow* who will inland on his own tw r o feet and take lis part.. She wants a sweetheart vho will not be run over and hurt /and fooled without fighting back. You have one chance of redeeming yourself. Do not go to see her, ever again, until she invites you herself. Let her long for a sight of you. for your kindness and thoughtfulness, if you do this, you really will have made some headway.

[ PARIS, Dec. 19. 'pHE aristocratic house of Irfe is showing an interesting line of angora jersey sports suits, which feature the popular two-tone effect,, such as beige and brown or two shades of green. Skirts are laid in double pleats, with the dark shade outside opening on to the lighter shade. The blouse is in the lighter color, with an applied motif in the dark. The sports dresses are short; all others are long. Many models have belts but others are bloused. The new cut-out embroidery on velvet is shown on the side panels of a gray crepe de chine gown, with cellar and cuffs in the same. A coat in black frappe velvet has a circular flare on one side edged in white fox, with the same fur on the collar and running up the sleeves to the elbow. The dress worn with it has a circular skirt of black and a white satin jumper is worn over it. A CHARMING dress is in black panne velvet and has a close fitting bodice, tight hips, and a very circular skirt attached in wide scallops. A charming black duvetyne suit has the waist in white georgette, beaded all over with tiny black beads. Ermine is placed at neck and cuffs. A black duvetyne suff with red fox collar is lined in reddsh brown crepe to match the and the dress is of the same. Berthas are shown on many of the evening gowns. One of black lace with tiny white flowers has a bertha following the low decollette. The dress is tubular and at the bottom it is cut in points and edged with closely gathered lace. Many of the evening gowns have rather loosely fitting bodices. a a a DRECOLL-BEER has a penchant for beautifully draped things, gowns that outline the figure they cover, yet manage to be bouffant. Yet all Drecoll-Beer garments are not this type. In every collection one expects to find, and does, interesting sports wear, usually employing colors effectively in combination. a a a , This grayish blue and white jersey costume, worn with a dark blue crepe de chine blouse, that I illustrated for you today is one of their sportswear ideas. Nice? For holiday activities? Guess I might as well (ell you about the other things in this week's illustrated leaflet besides instructions for making delightful toys for ehiliren. They are calico animals, which are not only to play with Dut serve nicely for nursery sofa cushions, a set of sachets for the older miss, directions for making Surprise Sabots 6iich as European children find full of toys and randy instead of the Christim ; stockings—ard use afterward for bedroom slippers and oh, dear, lots of other things! Better send your 2-cent : stamped envelope to the Dare Dej partment of The Times for this 1 leaflet. a a a IT is worth mentioning that platinum paillettes have been brought out. and their vogue has been immediate. For evening wear we see a great many bodices of lame, combined with a skirt of tulle, net, chiffon or lace, plain or spangled. The high waist-line, curved in definitely, and the popularity of basques and low skirt fulness have naturally brought in the casaqqUe, and these made un in lame cloth are really VERY lovely!
