FOR SAFETY OF BRITISH FLIERS Uneasy After 21 Hours of Silence From Giant Monoplane. ttu United Press LONDON, Dec. 18.—Officials of the air ministry were showing signs of uneasiness today after twentyone hours of silence of the radio on Britain's giant Fairey-Napier monoplane, en route from Cranwell to Capetown, South Africa. The big ship, with Squadron Leader A. G. Jones-Williams and Flight Lieutenant N. H. Jenkins aboard on a 6,000-mile nonstop flight, was reported last today off Sardinia, rushing on toward Africa.! It should have been in the air more than twenty-nine hours this morning and have covered about half the J distance to Capetown. Professor to Be Speaker on ‘Trend of Life

GERMANY BACKS MONUMENT FOR FLOYDJENNETT Token of Gratitude to Be Memorial to Flier on Berlin Air Field. Bv United Press BERLIN, Dec. 18.—A movement to erect a monument to the late Floyd Bennett as a token of Germany’s gratitude for his heroism in attempting to rescue the Bremen trans-Atlantic fliers was started today. A committee was formed to sponsor the movement, and it was understood that Chancellor Herman Mueller had supported the proposal. President Paul Loebe oi the Reichstag probably will accept chairmanship. Bennett died of pneumonia, contracted when flying to the relief of the Germans, Captain Hermann Koehl and the late Baron Gunther Von Huenefeld, and their companion, Colonel James Fitmaurice, who were forced down at Greenley island. The memorial committee has proposed to build the Bennett monument at Berlin’s Tempelhof airport. Faces Jail

A few years ago Joshiah V. Thompson, Pennsylvania coal operator, had a fortune estimated at $70,000,000. Now, broke because of business reverses, he faces a long term in jail unless he can raise $130,000 by Dec. 21. Thompson is accused of taking money from trust funds leit in his care, and must go to jail unless he can make up the shortage. SALEMAN TAKES DRUG After an alleged attempt to force his wife to take poison early today, Ray Alexander, 25, of 1328 North Delaware street, swallowed a quantity of the drug himself and is in serious condition at city hospital. The wife told police her husband is jealous of her and tha*- he beat her Sunday night. He is a traveling salesman and has been home since last Friday, she said.
