Light-Heavy Title Given Scozza-Slattery Winner to Be Recognized. fti, T fitted Prr*o NEW YORK, Dec. 18—The New York state athletic commission played Santa Claus to Jimmy Slattery and Lou Scozza Tuesday by announcing that the winner of a bout—if any—between the two Buffalo fighters would be recognized as the official light heavyweight champion of the world. Slattery was declared to have advanced to the rank of championship contender because of his recent victory over Maxie Rosenbloom o! New York and Scozza w r as given his place because he won on a foul from George Courtney of Oklahoma. The fact that Slattery previously was knocked out by James J. Braddock, who in turn was whaled by both Rosenbloom and Yale Okun apparently had no influence on the commission. Rosenbloom, Okun, Courtney and Scozza recently were named by the commission as leading contenders for the title. Franklin Quintet Swamps Central Pu United Press FRANKLIN, Tnd., Dec. 18. Joke Ruling Gives Primo K. O. Bv Unit'd Press LONDON, Dec. 18.—British boxing fans today were chagrined at the memory of the protests against allowing Primo Camera, 284-pound Italian heavyweight, to fight Fritz Diener of Germany Tuesday night on the grounds that the German’s life was endangered. Diener lost on a technical knockout when the referee stopped the bout in the sixth round—but he was still smiling and anxious to continue.
