ORDINANCE ON WORLEY'S AUTO IS DISCUSSED Competitive Bidding Up to $3,000 Is Specified in Measure. The special city council probe committee, which recently investigated transactions of the purchasing and legal departments, today considered the ordinance authorizing purchase of "an automobile" for Police Chief Claude M. Worley. The ordinance, introduced Monday night, specifies that the sedan shall not cost more than $3,000 and shall be bought after competitive bidding. It is designed to permit City Coni roller Sterling R. Holt to pay the $2,650 bill for the La Salle automobile bought July 5 on split requisitions to avoid obtaining city council approval. Report This Vear The committee, composed oi Herman P. Lieber, Edward Harris and Lari Buchanan, will report at the special council meeting Dec. 28 to finish up the year’s work. Although rules were suspended on two minor ordinances, the council bucked on the request of City Controller Holt, to pass an ordinance appropriating SI,OOO to E. Kirk McKinney. Democratic city chairman, S. H. Montgomery and Bert Rich- ( wrdson. "expert" witnesses in the i Pleasant Run interceptor sewer court cases. The controller desired to pay the claim from this year’s fund but President Edward B. Raub Sr., and Herman Lieber objected. Defer Airport Measure The ordinance annexing the city airport was deferred, until the special meeting because a part of the territory had been annexed by the town of Lynnhurst, and it is understood the section will be disannexed. A strip along the Pennsylvania railroad is included to make the airport contiguous to the city. Ordinances passed: Paying Attorney James W. Noel, $350 and Walter Carpenter $212, for expenses of the council probe; approving police radio contract with Indianapolis Power and Light Company; appropriating SB,OOO for a heating system at the fire department repair shop, and prohibiting signs or posters on utility poles, without a permit from the board of works.
