LEAP TOO LATE TO SAVE LIFE OF MAIL FLIER Partially Opened Parachute Tells Mute Story of Futile Effort. B >/ UviteA Press CLEVELAND, Dec. 6.—The body of Thomas N. Nelson, mall pilot, killed In the crash of his plane last Monday, will be taken to his home in Plainsfleld, N. J., today. The body of Nelson, found Thursday afternoon by two hunters, a few feet from his plane, was taken to Painesville, O. Coroner Lester T. Reynolds of Geauga county pronounced death due to exposure. He said Nelson had been forced down in a blinding snow storm and leaped too late. His partially-opened parachute told a mute tale of his attempt to cheat death. He never regained consciousness after striking the ground, the coroner said. Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh, Phil Love, Paul Collins, Eddie Stinton, Lieutenant James Doolittle and other famous fliers took part in the search for NeLson. Lindbergh spent the night at a hotel with Love. He is expected to take off for New York some time today. Love, Lindbergh and Nelson were "buddies” at an army training school and all flew the Chicago-St. Louis air mail route together. ACTRESS WILL MARRY Musical Comedy Star Announces Impending Wedding. /.’a r nitnl Frees NEW YORK, Dec. 6.—lt was announced Friday that Nydia D’Arnell, the musical comedy actress, would marry Harry A. Bruno early in January. Miss D’Arnell is on her way from Australia, where she appeared in "Show Bout.” Among her Broadway appearances have been roles in “Mayflowers,” "Happy Go Luc,ky,” “Golden Dawn” and “My Maryland.” Bruno is a member of the aviation publicity firm of Bruno & Blythe.

Peanut and Banana Salad Three tablespoons of flour, one cup of sugar, two eggs, two and onehalf cups milk, one-half pound of peanuts and four bananas. Mix flour, sugar, eggs and milk, cooking until thick. Then add one tablespoon of vinegar. Slice bananas and cover bottom of a deep bowl, then cover with a layer of filling, placing a layer of crushed peanuts on top. Alternate with the filling banana and peanut layers until ingredients are used. MRS. JAMES TATE. 2943 Bartholomew street. Lemon Chiffon Pie One-third cup of cold water, tablespoon gelatine, 4 eggs, 1 cup of sugar, juice and rind of one lemon and few grains of halt. Soak gelatine in 1-3 cup of cold water. Put 4 yolks, lemon juice and rind, with cup of sugar in double boiler. Beat with an egg beater until firm and creamy. Pour in gelatine and beat a few minutes longer. Cool. Dutch Potatoes Select enough medium-sized potatoes to suit tdhe family. Scrub, pare and cut hole lengthwise through the center of the potatoes with an apple corer. Draw a frankfurter or small link sausage through each cavity. Place potatoes in a dripping pan and lay a piece of salt pork or bacon ovwr each one. DRY LEADERS PLEASED WITH ALABAMA TEST Supreme Court Rules State Within Powers as to Liquor Buyers. Bn United Press WASHINGTON, Dec. 6.—The federal government will not seek to take advantage of state laws which make buyers as well as sellers of liquor liable. Prohibition Commissioner James M. Doran said today commenting on the successful test of Alabama’s law affecting purchasers of intoxicants. Major liquor offenders apprehended by federal officers will continue to be tried under the Volstead act, Doran said. The successful test of the Alabama law caused no surprise here, for several states have such dryer-than-Volstead statutes. These laws, while they exceed the national prohibition act, are fully within the state’s police powers, the supreme court has decided. The state’s rights are much more extensive than that of the federal government. Encouraged by the Alabama de-
