COUNCIL PROBE IS EXPECTED TO ABSOLVE SLACK Evidence in Land Dealings ‘Not Startling Enough’ for Action. BY EDWIN V. O’NEEL Re c c. n. menciat.cns of the special probe commi.toe to city council were bein-j drafted tocay by James W. Noel, counsel for the quiz, and City Clerx WilLam A. Boyce Jr., for presentation to city council as a committee of the whole Monday night. The special committee headed by Herman P. Lleber, is expected to go over the report before its presentation. President Edward B. Raub Sr. will be host to the entire council and Mayor L. Ert Slack, who invited the investigation, at. a dinner at the Indianapolis Athletic Club before the regular council session. Sing Swan Song It Is reported that the city fathers will sin'? the swan song of their administration, which enu.i Jan. 6, when the new council and Mayor-Elect Reginald H. Sullivsn ore inaugurated. The council would have legal authority to impeach administrative officers, urge legal proceedings or make other recommendations, if it found evidence to warrant such action. Observers at the hearings believe none of the evidence presented was “star; ling," and since the facts were known generally. It is considered likely that the committee will “clear the name" of the Slack administration. which was attacked by Charles W. Jewett. The committee repbrt will be confined strictly to the evidence presented to the committee. Assessor Testifies Prank D. Brattain, Center township a cssor, testified at. the closing eessioi Friday. The assessment records showed that the twenty-seven acres ol Dil’ing & Cos. land was assessed for $74,000, while the city bought fourteen acres at SIOO,OOO. The city pa and $225,000 for fifty acres of Granite Sancf and Gravel Company land for flood prevention, while the 103-acre tract had been assessed for only $40,500 in 1925, Brattain told the committee. Fabian W. B.emer, municipal garage superintendent, was called before the committee to answer questions relative to use of various equ.pment, but the subcommittee Which had been investigating motor equipment said everything was “satisfactory" and dismissed Biemer. FLAGS LOWERED AS RHINELAND IS EVACUATED French, Belgian Standards Removed From German Territory. By United Preaa COLOGNE, Germany, Nov. 30. The French flag on the once-fa-mous fortress of Ehrenbreitstein at Coblenz—known to war veterans ihroughout the world—was lowered at 11:15 a. m. today to mark the end of foreign evacuation in the second zone of the Rhineland. Simultaneously and with the same lack of pomp or display, the Belgian flag was lowered at Aachen. Thousands of persons watched in silence as the symbol of an allied victory was removed from German soil. Although the evacuation will not be complete until midnight, thousands of persons were pouring into Coblenz, Duren and Aachen, to participate in celebrations starting at 9:30 p. m. The local flying club aviators started the celebration by performing stunts over the towns when the flags were lowered. Long streamers inscribed “Aachen Is Free” trailed from planes flying over that city.
