OUSTED PASTOR SEEKS SLANDER SUITJIAMAGES Unfrocked by Parishioners for Alleged Intimacy With Young Girl. ROCKFORD, 111., NOV. 25. Shabby in day laborer’s “Sunday best,” the Rev. John A. Logan Warren, unfrocked by the Methodist church after it had found him guilty of intimacies with a 17-year-old maid, listened calmly to testimony in his slander suit against seven former parishioners. The former pastor of the Methodist Episcopal thurch at Durand, 111., is seeking $50,003 damages from the seven. He accuses them of inducing the church conference to oust him from his pastorate, with its salary of $2,000 a year, and of bringing him into “public hatred, contempt, ridicule, scandal and disgrace.” Many of the flock who attended services at Durand when he was pastor there, were in the circuit court room here today for the first testimony. A jury was completed late Monday. Mr. Warren, militant against those he has termed his false accusers since the “Warren case” filled the little town of Durand with gossip back in May, 1927, faced the crowded courtroom, his accusers, and the many Methodist ministers drawn here by the trial, unabashed and with head held high.
