FACES CHARGES OF BIGAMY AND CHECK JFRAUDS St. Louis Business Man Held on Complaint of Second Wife.' fill United Prrm ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 23.—Thomas C. Jones, electric sign company president, was enmeshed in a tangle today that included police investigation into his private and business life. He was held on complaint of a Columbus fO.) attorney, who claimed Jones married the former Mrs. Margaret Brenholtz of Columbus, while still married to his first wife. He faced a charge also of obtaining money under false pretenses, through issuance of allegedly worthless salary checks. Mrs. Ryita Travis, Kansas City, who at first told police “I am his wife,” but later said she was “his secretary” was detained for questioning. Jones said he believed he had been divorced from his first wife, seven years ago, and married Mrs. Brenholtz at Knoxville, Tenn., last February. The worthless check charge concerned payment of thirteen employes of Jones’ sign company here, who claimed they received checks totaling $6,000, which they were unable to cash. The City in Brief Annual “turkey party” of the Holy Name parish will be given Sunday, Nov. 24. at 2 and 7 p. m. in the school auditorium. Ladies of the parish will serve supper. G. F. Sheely. secretary of the Indiana Retail Harware Association, told of business problems from the viewpoint of the retail merchant at Friday's meeting of the Exchange Club in the Lincoln. Europe’s youth will be discussed Wednesday night by Miss Irene Harris of Phyllis Wheatly branch, Y. W. C. A., at the Central Y. W. C. A. The talk will be held under the auspices of the industrial department of the “Y.” A children’s party will feature the Little Flower church bazar in the auditorium of the church building this afternoon. The bazar opened opened Thursday and will close late tonight. Civil service vacancies for which examinations have been announced by Henry M. Trimpe, local secretary, include: Principal topographic draftsman, dietitian, assistant warehouse examiner, junior chemist. A reception was held for the Rev. Herschel M. Reed, new pastor of the Forty-ninth Street Christian church, Thursday night. He is a gradual of Butler university and comes to Iris new pastorate from Shiloh church.
