MANY MEETINGS SCHEDULED BY UNIVERSITY WOMEN
Dr. Peeling to Talk on War Debts Various study groups of the Indianapolis Branch of the American Association of University Women will meet during the remainder of the month of November. The international relations group holds its meetings the first and third Thursdays of every month from 10 to 11:30 a. m„ at the Y. W. C. A., parlor “B.” The next meeting will be held Thursday morning, Nov. 21. Dr. James H. Peeling of Teachers’ College of Indianapolis, is giving a series of talks on America’s world problems. His subject for the meeting will be "The War Debt Entanglement." Miss Ruth Milligan is chairman of the group. The junior group, with Miss Marie Sangernabo as chairman, will hold a meeting Monday at 6 o’clock at the Spink-Arms hotel. Miss Martha Dorsey will speak on England and Ireland. Reservations may be made with Miss Sangernebo, Lincoln 6774. Members of the child study group, of which Mrs. N. T. Todd is chairman. will meet at 2:15 Tuesday at the home of Mrs. T. E. Grinslade, 3956 Central avenue. The subject will be "Children’s Interest.” Reports are to be given by Mrs. Grinslade and Mrs. Todd. Mrs. Paul E. Tombaugh has been elected second vice-president to fill the place of Mrs. W. M. Louden.

Miss Florine Musselman, 2935 North Delaware street, will be hostess for a bridge tq§ to be given from 3 to 5 Sunday afternoon by members of lota Kappa sorority. Cracked Shades Heat often makes parchment lampshades so brittle that they crack easily. If they are already cracked, hold the crack together and shellac over it several times, both inside and out. Mrs. Diddel to Lecture on Yucatan Monday Afternoon Reading Club members will hold a guest meeting at the P-nh Memorial library Monday night. Hostesses for the evenin'* wil) be Mrs. Arthur Hoffman, present, and members of the program committee, which includes Mrs. John F. Boesinger, Mrs. Guy Scuddrr and Mrs. Roscoe C. Schultz. The program for the evening will be an illustrated lecture, “In the Jungles of Yucatan.” given by Mrs. Glenn Diddel, who is the daughter of Edward H. Thompson, famous archaeologist and lecturer. Mrs. Diddel lived in Yucatan for a number of years. She will apoear in native costume. Mrs. Ines Samper, a native of Mexico, now a resident of Indianapolis, will present a program of Spanish vocal and instrumental music. Miss Rea Bauer, pianist, and Miss Lorinda Cottingham, violinist, will play her accompaniment. The trio will appear in Mexican costume.

Anthony hotel. Ft. Wayne, will be headquarters for the first central states divisional conference of the National Society, D. A. R., to be held in that -city Jan. 7 and 8. according to plans announced by Mrs. James B. Crankshaw, state regent. Mrs. Lowell F. Hobart, president general, will preside at the conference, which will be on the order of a miniature continental congress. It will bring together a notable group of national officers, chairmen and vice-chairmen, state chairmen, chapter chairmen, and members of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, lowa, Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio chapters. No delegates are elected to divisional conferences, all members of the chapters being eligible and welcome to attend. Members of the Cradle of Liberty chapter, Petersburg, met Tuesday for a New England dinner. Those who took part in the program were Mrs. Sara Sullivan, Mrs. Fannie Rumer, Mrs. Lula A. Craig, Voris Gray and Fay Harris, Mrs. James B. Crankshaw, state regent, will be the guest of honor at a meeting of the Obadiah Taylor chapter, Lowell, Nov. 26. Colonel Scott, father of Mrs. Russell Magna, librarian general, and finance chairman of Constitution hall, has made a gift to the new hall of complete furnishings for the two men’s rest rooms. Members of the Steuben County Club were guests of the Steuben Chamber of Commerce Wednesday night at a dinner meeting held in the Masonic temple, Angola. The Angola Lion and Rotary Clubs were also guests. A meeting of the executive board of the Steuben D. A. R., has been called for Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Lina J. Williams, regent. November meeting of the Plymouth organization was held Friday night at the home of Mrs. Jeanette Bunnell. Dinner was served at 6:30 by the ladies of St. Thomas Episcopal church. Mrs. Bunnell was assisted by Miss Helen Price. Mrs. Effle Cook gave a talk on national defense. Mrs. McGregor Darling read the president’s message. Mrs. John McFadden, district chairman: Mrs. Alice Colkey and Mrs. James Sweeney, all of Gary, attended the meeting. Mrs. Minnie Schrock, Goshen> an out-of-town member, also attended. The next meeting will be held Dec. 13. Mrs. Frank Sterner entertained members of the Manitou chapter, Rochester, at her home Monday. Mrs. Howard Shafer assisted the hostess. More than forty members of the Alexander Hamilton chapter, Franklin, attended the meeting of the organization held Wednesday at the home of Mrs. M. E. Crowell, at which time E. L. Branigan gave an informal talk. Mrs. Louise Miller was assisting hostess. Eight new members received in to the chapter are Mrs. Ira Trantor, Mrs. Emma Gleesner, Mrs. John Atwood, Mrs. Benton Devore, Mrs. Fremont Miller, Mrs. Mary Eades, Miss Mary Beard and Miss Bessie Ray. Mrs. William Featheringill will be hostess for the next meeting to be held Dec. 11, at which time state officers will visit the chapter. With the admittance of 2,700 new members at the national board meeting, held Oct. 23, in Washington, membership in the national society now totals 168,200. One thousand supplemental papers and 600 new records were reported verified. Dorothy Q chapter, Crawfordsville, held a quilt, coverlet and sampler display at the chapter house Friday. Prizes were given for the oldest coverlet in good condition, the handsomest, the best old-time or old-fashioned quilt the most modern applique quilt, showing greatest skill, the handsomest pieced quilt, and the oldest sampler. The regular chapter meeting was held today.
