McAlplne and his party of •even geologist-exlorers were being brought bade to civilization today in lour rescue planes. The scientists, who staggered into a Hudson’s bay trading post at Cambridge Bay early this week after having been last in the Arctic since Sept. 8, were transported to Bathurst Wednesday and were to continue the 1,850 mile trip back to Winnipeg today if weather permitted. Captain G. S. Blanchet, in charge of the rescue squadron, sent a radio message from Bathurst saying that his passengers were in good shape physically and that he hoped to reach Bakers Lake, 400 miles farther •outh, by tonight. Y , Nov. 7. — Something nsw in intercollegiate contests will be introduced Friday with a plane race between New York university and Yale, from New York to Columbus, O. The race will be an informal affair and Percy Warren of N. Y. U. and Charles L. Morris of Yale, the contestants, will represent their college flying clubs at the Columbus conference of the Intercollegiate Aeronautic Association, Friday. Planes Protect Forests Bv United Pres* TORONTO, Nov. 7.—To protect the forests of Ontario, one of the province’s most valuable assets, the Ontario government protective air patrol this year has flown 850.000 air miles or a total of 11.500 flying hours.
