WINTER WINDS CHURN LAKES, TAKEONE LIFE Storms Spread Wreckage for 200 Miles Along Shoreline. /}>/ United Presi CHICAGO, Oct. 23. Winter’s shock troops, lashing winds, snow and rain, had central and western states in their crip today. Converging on lower Lake Michigan Tuesday, icy blasts churned a furious and destructive storm that spread wreckage for 200 miles along the shore. Chicago bore the brunt of the swollen lake’s wrath. At least one life was claimed by the angry waters. Outriders of the storm spread snow or rain over a vast section stretching to the Rockies. There was a thin blanket of snow over parts of Michigan. Minnesota, Wisconsin, lowa, Illnois, Indiana, Colorado and ■Wyoming. Rescue of two seamen from a foundering barge on Lake Michigan was the most spectacular* incident during Tuesday's gale. Another barge with six men aboard was reported adrift in Lake Superior Tuesday night. While a steamer was aground on a reef off Cockbume island in Lake Huron. Scores of small craft were battered and many sank at their moorings. Vivian Houte, 8-year-old school girl, was drowned when she tried to cross a narrow wooden bridge from Jacob’s island, in Lake Michigan, near Kenosha, Wis., to the mainland. Supports of the bridge, weakened by waves, gave way. She was on her way from school to her home on the island.

When Your Cough Hangs On, Mix This at Home
The best cough remedy that money could buy, can easily be mixed at home. It saves money and gives you the most reliable, quick-acting medicine you ever used. The way it takes hold of stubborn coughs and chest colds, giving immediate relief, is astonishing. Any druggist can supply you with 2% ounces of Pinex. Pour this into a pint bottle, and fill up with plain granulated sugar syrup or strained honey. It’s no trouble at all to mix, and when you once use it, you will never be without it. Keeps perfectly and tastes good—children really like it. It is surprising how quickly this loosens the germ-laden phlegm, and soothes and heals the inflamed membranes. At the same tidie, part of the medicine is absorbed into the blood, where it acts directly on the bronchial tubes, and helps the system throw off the whole trouble. Even those severe coughs which follow cold epidemics, are promptly ended. Pinex is a highly concentrated compound of genuine Norway Pine, containing the active agent of creosote, in a refined, palatable form. Nothing known in medicine is more helpful in cases of severe coughs, chest colds and bronchial troubles. Do not accept a substitute for Pinex. It is guaranteed to give prompt relief or money refunded. —Advertisement.
