TRAIN WRECKER GIVES REVENGE AS HIS MOTIVE Former Railway Employe, Mentally Deranged, Caused Crash. A grievance nursed for two and one-half years by a mentally deranged fornfer employe, 'was responsible for the wreck of a speeding Pennsylvania express freight train, nine miles east of the city Wednesday night, police learned Sunday. After two days’ questioning, William Breese, 46, of Cumberland, admitted having loosened a rail section that derailed the train. His act was to “get even” with the railroad company for lack of compensation for-an injury sustained while an employe, Breese said. Three members of the train crew were injured, and damage of $25,000 guffered in the wreck. With the finding the next day of tools they believed were used in prying loose the rail, detectives and Sheriff George Winkler put bloodhounds on the trail. They traced the scent from the tools to Breese. Breese today was charged with train wrecking, but probably will be returned to Central Insane hospital, from which he is on furlough. Detective Chief Jerry Kinney said. TRAVELERS AID WORK IS SHOWN IN REPORT Children, Immigrants and Aged Persons Are Given Help. Mrs. Wilbur Johnson, president of the Indianapolis Travelers' Aid Society, made the organization's quarterly report at a meeting at noon today at the Columbia Club. The report showed aid was given the following: 183 children. 157 applications for aid through failure to meet relatives and friends; 27 immigrants; 32 aged persons; 75 for physical disability; 18 runaways, and 114 investigations conducted for other organizations. Mrs. M. Grace Amorosi, executive secretary, reported on the national conference of social workers at San Francisco last June, which she attended.

GERMAN DRIVE ON YOUNG PLAN RIOTS Police Resort to Violence to Disperse Crowds at Berlin, Bu United Preen BERLIN, Oct. 21.—Quiet was restored in Berlin today after a weekend of political demonstrations, marked by several casualties and the arrest of one hundred persons. The Steel Helmets and scattered groups of other Nationalist organizations gathered in the Wilhelmstrasse, before the German foreign office and the residence of President Paul Von Hindenburg. Poke were forced to resort to violence to disperse the demonstrators. The Nationalist campaign has been marked by considerable feeling since it began last Wednesday. Several thousand signatures already have been obtained in Berlin to the petition for a referendum. Although more than 4,000,000 signatures are necessary to force the Reich to call the referendum, Nationalist leaders have received early resppnses to the campaign with great enthusiasm President Hindenburg has refused to be drawn into the controversy except for a formal smtement which was issued in his behalf saying that he had taken no definite stand on the question. The president added, however, that he disapproved of the section of the Nationalistic campaign program which proposes to hbld government officials, who authorize reparations payments under the Young plan liable to prosecution for treason. SENATORS CALL FOR PLANE TRAGEDY DATA Showdown on Secrecy of Federal Bureau Is Expected. Bu Scrippt-Haward Fetcnpaper Alliance WASHINGTON, Oct. 21.—A showdown on secrecy over airplane accidents as practiced by the aeronautics branch of the department of Commerce is to be demanded before the senate commerce committee next week by Senators McKellar and Bratton. McKellor has Introduced a resolution requiring the department to transmitr-to the senate “for its own use” a report on an accident at Memphis where an airplane crashed, killing two passengers. Bratton has introduced an amendment asking that the official report on the accident to the Transcontinental Air Transport plane, San Francisco, in New Mexico be sent at the same time. Eight died in that crash.

LAYS BLAME ON PROHIBITION FOR ‘DIRTYTOLITICS Former Mayor of Chicago Favors Canadian Liquor Plan. Bv United Preen PARIS, Oct. 21.—The present political condition in Chicago is impossible to improve without compromise with “the silty mess brought about by prohibition,” Carter Harrison, fiye times mayor of Chicago, told the United Press in an interview here today. Harrison will sail Tuesday on the Leviathan for New York. Stating that he never would consider seeking the mayoralty of Chicago again, Harrison said that Mayor Thompson has played “fast and loose” with wets and drys. He cited cases where federal prohibition agents have protected bootlegging, and cases of personal observation of murder of gangsters in front of a cathedral whose cornerstone was so defaced by bn’lets that the inscription was illegible. Harrison said he favors government control of liquor, similar to the Canadian plan, and added tfrat he is positive Chicago is no worse than New York.
