ORATORIO WILL BE PRESENTED IN CITY CHURCH 200 Will Have Parts in Program at Mt. Paran House of Worship. “The Lord's Supper,” an oratorio, written by Hiram Simmons of Norfolk. Va„ will be presented at Mt. Paran Baptist church, Twelfth and Missouri streets, Wednesday night, Oct. 23. The Rev. Charles H. Bell is pastor. Two hundred persons are being trained by H. P. B. Johnson of Chicago, director of music for the National Baptist convention. Johnson, well known in musical circles, has conducted choruses in many states. Soloists for the oratorio will be Mrs. Helen Laster, Mrs. Blossie Roberts. Mrs. Viola Wilson, Mrs. Pauline Woods, Mrs. Erline Mays and C. H Smitha. Negro Woman Writer Miss Mary White Ovington, chairman of the board of directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is one of the contributors representing various organizations who have written chapters in “The Amazing Benjamin Franklin,” a book published under auspices of the Philadelphia chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The foreword, contributed by President Hoover, Includes expressions from Sir Esme Howard. British ambassador at Washington: ex-Presldent Coolldge, Harry 8. New. postmaster-general, and Alexandre Milierand, ex-presldent of France. The N. A. A. C. P. chapter on Franklin by Miss Ovington Is entitled “Franklin and the Negro.” It deals with Franklin as presldjnt. of a Philadelphia Society for promoting he abolition *f slavery, and the presentation of a memorial to the house of representatives Feb. 12, 1789. asking them to discourage the slave traffic.
