' 18.—The senate judicianr committee probably will investigate what certain senators say is the most flagrant abridgement of the constitutional right of free speech yet involved in injunction proceedings against labor organizations. The injunction was issued by Federal Judge George C. .Scott of the northern district of lowa, against members of the Gypsum Miners Union of Ft. Dodge, la., because they had caused to be printed a circular informing trade unions throughout the country that a strike was in progress at the plant of the United Gypsum Company and that the company was using the so-called "yellow dog” contract as a part of its employment policy. defendant Gypsum union, officials from "printing, publishing, issuing, circulating and distributing, or otherwise communicating, directly or Indirectly in writing or verbally, to any person, association of persons, or corporation, any statement or notice of any kind or character whatsoever, stating or representing that the complaint or Its business | or its products are, were, or have i been declared unfair to organized labor, or are on any unfair list, stating or representing, directly or Indirectly, by any combination of words or phrases that complainant should not be patronized or dealt with or its products purchased, used, handled worked npon, or dealt in because made and manufactured in an open nonunion mill, and from printing, publishing, circulating, issuing and distributing or communicating, directly or indirectly, either verbally or in writing to any person, association of persons, etc." The fact that a copy of the injunction was enclosed in a letter to Senator Brookhart, along with a copy of the enjoined circular, constitutes a violation of the injunction, Brookhart says. i “My informant has made himself liable for prosecution, because lie has dared to WTite me about this un-American procedure,” Brookhart declared. “It is the most outrageous order I ever heard of.”
