Both men told colleagues attending the annual convention of the college here that they always had been opposed to abuses of alcoholic liquors, but were convinced prohibition was wrong in principle and actually harmful in effect. Their findings received the approbation of their fellow surgeons. “Prohibition is a magnificent

effort, yet I see no evidence that it ever has been enforced, nor any probability that it ever can be enforced,” said Dr. Martin.
