The other project that is being prepared for future approval of the Chicago citizens calls for the construction of a ten-mile super-high- ! way of even larger proportions that | will lead traffic from the congested center of the city to an outlet in the | northwest corner. ! The Austin-Kinzie highway will be nearly five miles long and will average eighty feet in width. It will open up a part of the city, says Hugh E. Young, chief engineer for ) the Chicago plan commission, which has been the mast neglected of all : sections so far as traffic facilities go. According to Young, this highi way will be wide enough to accom- ' modate nearly 4,500 vehicles an hour in both directions, or about 80,000 a day. This is far beyond ! the expectations of traffic demands as far off as 1950.
