POISON ROUTS PESTS Paris Green Exterminates Ants Raving California. Bn Science Service BERKELEY, Cal., Oct. 4. Paris green, time-honored foe of potato beetles and other insect pests, promises victory in the war California is waging against termites, sometimes called “white ants,” destroyers of millions of dollars of wood-built structures annually. Effectiveness of the Paris green dust depends first on cleanliness of the termites. They forever are licking themselves clean, and thus swallow the deadly powder. After they have died or are very notably weakened, a second termite habit comes into play. The insects are cannibals through thrift; they eat their deceased relatives. It does not matter if the dead termite met its end through poison; it gets eaten anyway. Thus the same dose of Paris green may do away with several termites in succession. • RAILWAY FOR BERMUDA First Road in Isim.ds Will Be Ready by Spring. United Press HAMILTON, Bermuda, Oct. 4. FRANCISCO AUTO HEATER IS BOON Makes Driving Comfortable in Coldest Weather. Installation of a Francisco auto heater now will making driving in the coldest weather this winter as comfortable as summer, according to officials of the Perfection Windshield Company, 25 West Pratt street, city distributors. The Francisco heater, which is designed separately for each make of car, is guaranteed to deliver more heat than any other heater, regardless of price. It produces heat instantly, pours warm fresh air, taken just back of the motor fan, forced through a covering around the manifold, into the car, changing the air in the car every two or three minutes, preventing headaches and car sickness. Motor fumes are impossible, as the exhaust is not tapped, but merely jacketed. Another advantage claimed by the Francisco is that it covers the intake as well as exhaust manifold, acting as a hot spot, causing complete vaporization of gasoline and bringing to the motor summer efficiency. A deflector elbow permits a stream of warm air being delivered at will in any direction in the car. Francisco heaters -are low priced and can be afforded easily by any car owner. BUILDING MAINTAINS FAIR ACTIVITY HERE New construction, as represented by the Indianapolis Real Estate Board's compilation of city building permit figures, showed fair activity last-week.
