Truth Firm Foundation for Love BY MARTHA LEE Lov® is the strangest malady known to man. There are severe rases, there are light cases, but there never has been found a reliable cure. If may Strike you suddenly; you may succumb, and you may rally, it may creep upon you unawares, and It is-this form that nearly always proves fatal. Faith Is necesiary for love. Distrust between lovers brings unhappiness and results in ultimate parting. Truth is an Important factor between engaged couples—between boys and girls or men and women whose friendship has not reached the point of a formal engagement to marry. White lies cause only annoyance, but regular out-and-out lies are uniovglveable. If there are things that < ne’s sweetheart should not know, they are better left unsaid; but •.here should be an understanding tween both parties of such nature at lies would be unnecessary. Friendship Major Element Frendship is a third element, closely related to love, without which marriage is impossible. There has to be more than a physical attraction to make marriage a success. Husband and wife must be pals, as well as lovers, to share the hard knocks that are bound to come. There must be something in the family coffers, too. to engineer a successful marriage. The tale of being able to live on love In a fairy story only, and is discarded with Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. A young couple has a hard enough time becoming adjusted to the new order of things, without being burdened with petty money problems. They really are petty, although at the time they loom as large as the Rockies. Young people should start their new estate with a bank account, however tiny, and with a firm intention to save a little each week. Then if setbacks come along they are prepared to meet them bravely with no reproaches from either party. D*ar Miss Lee—Tell me something. T have my own Ideas and I want to see if 1 am right. I am 20 years old. and engaged to a bov of 23. That Is. I thought I was. Here's the problem: I have been going steady with him lor nine months. At first I did not love him. but now I do. Do you think it takes a person that long to find out whether she loves another or not? He is wonderful to me and X can trust him. He has a college education, and above all he is truthful. I could not ask for more. I can not understand him. He talks In such indifferent ways lately. But. I think it la because be is not always thinking of himself. He is too considerate. Now. what must I do? Keep on going this way? X love him and he knows it. Since he has quit talking of us getting married. I do not know what to think. Do you think he has changed his mind? Perhaps ft is because he is not working at present and he told me once that “No man had a right to talk to a girl about marrying her. when he was not able financially.” 1 agree, but at least he could ease my mind. He tells me juat to wait and see how things turn out. What docs he mean? Lhe right? Does he love me? ELSIE. If the boy in question talks indifferently, it may be because he can >,ot afford marriage, and does not want to tie you down. Waiting Good Idea Mam men feel they have no right to demand all a girl’s time when marriage is out of the question, as it decidedly is if he is not working. I would wait, as he suggests, and see how things turn out. If you love him, help him to economize a little. If he loves you, he will get a job, his money, and when he is able, ask you to be his wife. However, if he is not sincere, and does not contemplate marriage. I would forget him. for nothing you can do will make him love you. Why waste vour time on the impossible?
