PRESBYTERY to bar WOMEN AS BISHOPS Feminine Members Can Be Elders, Session Here Rules. Women in the Presbyterian church may be elders, but they can not rise to rank of bishop, according to a ruling of the Indianapolis Presbytery in session at the Irvington Presbyterian church. Appointment of women elders was approved by the presbytery Monday afternoon in passing on several questions referred by the last general assembly. Corporation property should be held in trust by the congregation and not for the Presbyterian Church of the United States and the right of the assembly to dictate qualification of religious education was denied, the conference decided. The 1930 conference will be held at Boggstown. DESIGN SWIFT LINER NEW YORK. Sept. 18.—A new liner, designed to be faster than the Bremen and larger than the Majestic, is to be built for the French line, according to Maurice Tillier, managing director of the line. The keel will be laid at St. Nazaire in October or November. TRY THESE CARROTS” FOR JADFDAPPETITES Hard to Resist the Flavor When Cooked This Appetizing Way A well-known woman cooking authority, realiz-ihg the importance of vegetables in the diet, has worked out this new recipe for Flemish Carrots: Scrape 13 young carrots and slice lengthwise into thin strips like matches. Melt 6 tablespoons butter. Add carrots, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon of chopped parsley, and salt. Cover the pan and let simmer until tender, about 20 minutes, turning frequently with a spoon. Add cream, stir well, heat and serve. Remember the importance of vegetable foods in the daily diet, and profit by the old secret rediscovered by four famous women cooking experts. Add a dash of sugar to each vegetable w’hile it is cooking. The little sugar works wonders for freshness, color and taste. Sugar is the supreme condiment for developing the delicate, natural flavors of fruits and vegetables so that children and adults will be tempted to eat variety. The balanced diet is so important in promoting health that it is well to serve stewed and fresh fruits daily. If your family, does not drink enough milk, serve milk shakes, eggnogs and milk desserts, such as junkets and custards. Add a dash of sugar to cooking cereal to develop its flavor. Serve cakes and cookies containing chocolate or cocoanut, ices and ice creams, canned berries and fruits, or candy for dessert. A hit of sweet makes the meal complete.
