SCIENTIST SEES INSECTS FUTURE WORLD RULERS Points Out Life Force of the Lowly .Cockroach as Danger Signal. PARIS. Sept. 13 —The civilization of mankind may be overthrown sometime in the future by superintelligent insects evolved ffom lowly cockroaches, thousand-leg-gers, bedbugs, spiders or ants. Such is the prediction made by the French scientist, Georges Delport, who just has published a scholarly exposition on this theory. It Is entitled ‘insects as future masters of the world.” It may take several millipn years or even more, Delport admits, before insect domination comes about, but he believes firmly that the cycle of life is bound to turn some day in favor of the persistent creatures who live in cracks and crevices. He particularly emphasizes their ability to propagate despite man’s efforts to stop them, while mankind itself is tending more and more toward birth control. Citing the Darwinian theory of the survival of the fittest, he contends that such cockroaches, for example, as are being killed off by insecticide, are the more stupid ones only. Those with more intelligence escape and are able to reproduce, thus constantly elevating the cockroach intellect. The tremendous life force of insects is shown by the difficult*, farmers have in keeping thenplants and fruit trees irom being destroyed by tiny bugs. Delport recalls that often entire orchards must be burned before such a plague can be eradicated.
