STATE G. 0. P. COMMITTEE TO • DISCUSS PLANS Mayoralty Candidates to Attend Meeting at Lebanon Club. BY BEN STERN. Plans for the mayoralty election In November and the biennial state convention next May will be discussed at the meeting of the Republican state committee, mayoralty candidates and political leaders of the "party next Tuesday at the Ulen Country Club at Lebanon. Invitations to the meeting not only have been sent to committee members by State Chairman Elza Rogers, but special care was taken to invite prospective candidates in the 1930 convention The state committee must plan the steps to be taken in giving the vote to vice-committeemen of the state as provided in the "50-50” bill passed by the 1929 legislature. Voting Power to Women This law gave voting power to the women members of the state, district, county and precinct committees. The 1925 statute provided that precinct committeemen appoint members of the opposite sex as vicecommitteemen. but did not give the vice-committeemen power to vote except in the absence of the committeemen. The majority of these appointees were women, as few of that sex were elected precinct committeemen. The same rule holds in the state, district and county committees. The rules promulgated by the state committee must be revised to conform with provisions of the 1929 statute. Candidates for the various state offices are expected to make their announcements at the meeting. Mrs. Urbahns Eliminated All holders of biennial offices, including the secretary of state, treasurer, auditor and state superintendent of public instruction will be present. Otto FifieTd. secretary of state, and Archie Bobbitt, auditor of state, are expected to announce their candidacies for re-clection. Mrs. Grace B. Urbahns, treasurer, will be eliminated under the constitutional provision that the holders of biennial offices can succeed themselves but once. Harry Nichols, Madison, who was a close contender for the office at the 1928 convention. is expected to announce his candidacy. Present indications are that Fificiri may expect opposition from his home county, Lake, in the form of State Senator C. Oliver Holmes, Gary banker. Eobbitt is the only one without apparent opposition. The four-year term of Charles Biederwolf, supreme and appellate court clerk, expires next year, but is being boomed for re-election. Roy P. Wisehart, state superin- j tendent of public instruction, also is i expected to be a candidate for reelection, but not without opposition.

On the arrival of the sloop in ; Spam, Caballero confessed he shot the seaman after the latter had attacked him, and the controversy which led to the shooting being caused by Carbo's desire to claim for himself all the glory of the transAtlantic voyage. Brulatour, were held on the French line pier here four hours after their arrival from Europe while customs inspectors searched for diamonds an anonymous tipster is supposed to have informed the officials they were trying to smuggle in. The irate millionaire offered a reward of SIO,OOO for the namd of the alleged tipster. It was found by inspectors on a check that nothing had been omitted from the declaration.

DEATH TOLL NOW 17 Majority of Explosion Victims Women. Hu United Press BRESCIA. Italy, Sept. s.—The death toll from the devastating explosion in the fireworks factory near Montichiari rose to seventeen today as relief workers continued their search of the ruins for several missing persons. Most of the dead were maimed almost beyond identification. The majority of the victims were women. Fifty employes were working in the building Wednesday when the terrific explosion came, killing several of them instantly. Conflagration followed the explosion.

Olympia, flagship of Admiral George Dewey at the Battle of Manila Bay, is likely to be considered at the<next regular session or congress.
