PLANE TESTED FOR ENDURANCE ATTEMPT HERE City Pilots Prepare Craft for Long Grind, to Begin Next Week. The Indianapolis Flamingo, in which anew sustained flight record will be sought, starting about the middle of next week, today was undergoing factory tests at Cincinnati. Lieutenant Walter R. Peck, Schoen field commander. Ft. Benjamin Harrison, who will be chief pilot, and Lieutenant Lawrence Genaro, army air corps reserve flier, co-pilot, will go to Cincinnati Friday to obtain delivery of the plane. After being brought to Indianapolis, the craft will be flighttested thoroughly for several days by Peck and Genaro. Gasoline tanks holding more than 600 gallons, and a “cat walk” on the sides of the plane to permit pilots to inspect the motor and make minor adjustments in the air, have been installed on the plane. Lientenant A. Perry, air corps reserve, Dayton, will pilot the refueling plane, a Travel Air monoplane loaned by Hoosier airport. Bob Shank and Harold C. Brooks, Hoosier airport, will assist Perry in the refueling. In addition to the Travel Air monoplane, two other emergency refueling planes will be used, one a Whirlwind Waco and the other a Douglass biplane. The endurance craft, a Flamingo all-metal cabin monoplane, has been donated by the Metal Aircraft Corporation, Cincinnati, the manufacturer, through courtesy of General Manager A. Peterson and Sales Manager J. A. Edwards. It is powered with a 425-horse power Pratt & Whitney Wasp radial engine. Major Hollis L. R. Muller, executive officer of the organized army, Fifth corps area, is flight commander: Julian Ralston, attorney, is legal advisor. Two committees, one an operating committee composed of expert aviators and technicians, and the other a policy and advisory committee, composed of prominent Indianapolis business men and state and city officials. are to be announced. Hoosier airport will be the refueling base for the flight. Shortly after the take-off, it is planned to fly to New York and return without refueling en route, refuel here, then fly to Los Angeles

That Hoover is tremendously interested in consolidating last fall’s gains- is evidenced in his choice of Huston. • The Tennessseean’s first duty will probably be to take charge of the southern reorganization, which has been going ahead haltingly since
