Forty-two years ago today, in 1887, a little group of men from the railroad service department gathered at an uptown railroad office to consider the organization of a Building and Loan Association for employees. They wanted to provide a safe depository for the accumulation of savings “ We " “ * he fmanC ‘ ng 0t "° meS ' The result of the meeting was the founding of the Railroadmen’s Building and Savings Association. Upon the completion of the new Union Station, in 1888, the offlees were moved into that building, where they remained until April 1917, and then moved to their present location on Virginia Avenue. That thesg foresighted men planned and executed well, goes without saving. No better edification of this can be found than the fact that the assets cf the company have grown from the $15,606.78 in 1888 to $58,010,336.01 in 1929. This remarkable growth was accomplished without the aid of commissions or paid solicitors. It is the merit of unselfish service to the community for a period of 42 years.
