STATE REBATES $1,236 PLATE FEES IN BAT Auto License Refunds Set New Record: Totaled $56,000 Last Year. The state did a record, business on returned automobile license plates Wednesday and paid out 51.236.46, William E. Witmer. rebate clerk, announced today alter compiling the figures. Witmer has been in charge ol rebates for th" last five years and asserted this sum is the largest ever paid out in a single day. The amount was divided as follows: buses $630; passenger cars *401.05; trucks $204.58, and one motorcycle 83 cents. The highest fee paid during trie day was $75 on returned bus plates and the lowest the motorcycle. Last year the total returned fees totaled $56,000 and this year's budget for rebates is SBO,OOO, and will .;e more than exhausted. Witmer predicts. Witmer has signed 12,724 checks made out by Mrs. Geneva Walker rebate clerk. Payments are made eleven months of the year, each month the plates were in service being counted out In making the deductions. The lowest rebate check ever paid was 8 cents and the highest for a single month’s rebate was $16.67 on bus plates. Five years ago only about 8,000 were returned for rebate. Witmer attributes the increase to the taking busses out of service by merging and replacement of lines and to increased trade in automobiles in general. He said Indiana is one of but a few states that makes rebates and It Is lowest in original fees charged. Plates must be returned and forms properly filled out and notarized berfor rebate is made. Rogers is only on his second recruiting post and still yearns for the comfort oi a nice noisy engine room on a bucking destroyer in a heavy sea. The two residents are Peter Rezzo. 14, and Emery Gay lor. 15. A letter introduced them to Rogers. It follows: “We are two boys who arc only 14 and 15 years old. and we want to get in the navy when we are 13. You don't need to force us because we are navy mad now. We were thinking when wo were 9 years old of joining up. “P. S— Don't forget to send us the joining cards." Boyd Gurley, editor of The Indianapolis Times, as he hopped off from Mars Hiill airport for Los Angeles, Cal., at 9:28 this morning, on the Transcontinental Air Transport Company’s City of Indianapolis, as the guest of the T. A. T. Gurley will visit a brother in California and return to Indianapolis on the air line early next week. He will arrive in Los Angeles at 5:30 Saturday afternoon.
