I.—Heavy rains which beat intermittently throughout the night on the tented city of the “world Jamboree" of Boy Scouts, forcing cancellation of the opening night campfire ceremonies, failed today to dampen ’he ardor of the 50.000 lads from sixty-seven nations as they looked forward to welcoming the prince of Wales th;.- evening at their ‘ big howl." The prince will inspect the camp and will witness all of the colorful ceremonials of the evening. He w ill spend the night as a guest of the Scouts, sleeping in a tent. Friday, Charles G. Dawes, United States ambassador, is to be the honor guest, but the press of diplomatic affairs will prevent his remaining over night. The prince of Wales is to deliver an address at the international rally Friday. The 1,300 American Scouts continued today to draw a major portion of the interest of the crowds from neighboring towns and cities. The Indian motif is carried out throughout the entire American section of the camp. William Tompkins of San Diego, Cal., gathered Nigerians, Bulgarians and Poles around his campfire before the rain descended Wednesday night and taught them the Indian sign language. Scouts from Rockford. 111., and Ft. Wayne, Ind., are building a fiftyfoot Indian totem pole which they evpect to leave in Arrowe Park as a permanent memorial of their visit.

Henry W. Bennett, Insurance Head, Resigns After 22-Year Record. Charles F. Coffin, vice-president and general manager of the State Life Insurance Company, began his duties today as president of the company following the resignation Wednesday of President Henry W. Bennett. Bennett's retirement, following twenty-two years service 'with the company, was due to the increasing burden of the office and his desire to be relieved of the responsibilities. The company’s board of directors announced that Robert E. Sweeney, second vice-president, was elected to succeed Coffin and James I. Dissette, a director, was named second vice-president. Charles F. Coffin Jr. fills the directorate post left vacant by Bennett’s resignation.
