I shall stand on this idea as long as T am commisisoner and if anew building is not erected there, as far R* I'm concerned, the situation will remain as it is today."

SOLON IS APPOINTED Ciaycombe Named by Leslie as Bureau Head. Having accepted resignations from two legislators appointed as license revocation judges. Secretary of State Otto G. Fifield today appointed another legislator to the position as chief and counsel of the bureau of criminal identification and registration. The latest legislative beneficiary is Lloyd D. Ciaycombe, Indianapolis, who gained fame in the lower house of the legislature during the 1929 session by trying to thwart action against the city manager law. He is a political henchman of George V. Coffin local political boss. Fifield is friendly with the Coffin crowd, which plays politics after the manner of Lake county, where the secretary of state comes from. The position given Ciaycombe was formerly held by John K. Ruckclshaus, who resigned to accept a position on the legal staff of the Ulen Company, Lcbanan. He is now' in Europe. The position is part time and pays : $1,500 a year. CLUB IS INCORPORATED City Clerk William D. Boyce Jr. today tiled incorporation papers of the New Marion Club with the secretary of state. Incorporators are Boyce, Harry C Hendrickson, Frank Cones, George C. Hutsell, Marion county treasurer: Harry Dunn, Marion county auditor; Joseph Foppiano, Donald M. Ream, Charles W. Jewett and Joseph G. Hayes. All are supposed ,to be anti-Coffin Republicans.

JURY ANSWERS GIRLS' PRAYERS BY ACQUITTAL Spend Six Hours on Knees to Thwart Charges of Burglary. , H' / 1 tv t rf t l’rr 3 CHICAGO. July 31.—Two girls whom the state sought to send to prison for from one year to life believe more than ever today in the efficacy of prayer. For six hours a jury trying Mrs. Helen Whittaker. 20, mother of an 18-months-old baby, and her friend, Florence Trainor, 19, on burglary ! charges, deliberated the question of their guilt or innocence. For six hours Mrs. Whittaker and Miss Trainor remained on their knees in prayer. When finally the jury filed back into Judge Harry B, Miller's court, i its. verdict was: “Not guilty!” Today the girls, back in their ' cells in Cook rounty jail awaiting | the state’s decision as to whether they would be brought to trial on other indictments pending against them, were offering up prayers of thanksgiving. Mrs. Whittaker and Miss Trainor are accused of several apartment burglaries. The prosecution charges them with stealing jewelry, clothing and fur coats after gaining entrance to south side flats with pass keys, jon the pretext of desiring to rent apartments. The state contends it was a desire for pretty clothes and jewels that led them to it. The girls still protest their innocence. Assistant State’s Attorney George Lavin asked the jury to give them the maximum—a year to life in the women's penitentiary at Joliet. “I’m as sorry for the girls as you are,” he told the jurors, “but if you don’t give them the maximum penalty you will not be doing your duty.” Two more burglary charges still are pending against the two.
