July 2*.-Be-hind the death of the man. the ’’Oman and the six children ■who perished of thirst when their automobile became stranded on the •'-orching Mojave desert lies a story of a broken home. Enrique Armentas, driver of the car in which he, Mrs. Julia Perez and the woman’s six children went to their death, had left a wife and two children behind him in Brawlcy. He had quarreled with his v ife and having gone to Mrs. Perez several weeks ago. decided to move w ith her to Blythe. They were on their way to the little town when their automobile broke down near Beale Wells. While Armentas sought to repair the car, Mrs. Perez and her children made a futile search fop water. The bodies of the eight were found Thursday after a passing motorist had seen Armentas’ body rear the machine on the littletraveled road.

Hickman, former deputy United States marshal, charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated. Amos Fulk, police chief, and Patrolman John Matthews, testified that Hickman was drunk and not capable of driving his machine. The rase probably will be given the jury late today.
