CITY URGED TO REJECT GIFT OF ; DOG POUND SITE Councilman Meurer Argues Pendleton Pike Ground Is Unsuitable. Rejection of the gift of ten lots along Pendleton pike. between Phipps street and Walker avenue for anew city dog pound site, was urged today by City Councilman Albert Meurer. Meurer suggested moving the dog |x>und to the city sewage disposal plant, southwest of the city, declaring the proposed sue “unsuitable." “I represent the citizens living in the vicinity of the proposed pound site, the same as those from Irvington, and I do not propose to let them dump a dog pound in my district,” Muerer said. "They wouldn’t dump a dog pound in Golden Hill, and they can’t in the district I represent.” Delegation Protest*: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Patrick have deeded the ten lots to the city on condition that a $25,000 pound be erected on the property. City council has delayed accep'ance of the gift pending further study of the situation. A delegation headed by John Sickle, 2535 Phipps street, remonstrated against accepting the site Monday night before the council. Meurer declared the proposed location is undesirable because there ars no sewer and water connections. He pointed out that it is necessary to haul dead dogs to the sewage disposal plant through city streets from the present site. Calls Pound “Filthy'* “The city should have determined the temper of the citizens surrounding the property before the land was bought. I am told that the real estate man told property owners the location would be used for an experimental station.” Meurer said, adding that the present pound, which is rented from the Indianapolis Humane Society, is ‘filthy.’ ” Tests ‘Trade at Home.’ BU T ime* Sprrinl ANDERSON. Ind., July 18.—The board of works has been reminded that Anderson has a trade at home policy. The reminder was in the form of a letter from the Anaconda Wire and Cable Company, suggesting that inasmuch as the company’s plant here buys electric power from the municipal electric light and power plant at the rate of about $3,000 a month the city plant should in turn buy all wire from the Anaconda company. The matter was referred to C. B. Stelle, superintendent of municipal plants.

Daily News quoting Captain H. Kristensen, master of the Danish motorship Mexico, which has been searching for the Kobenhavn. The Kobenhavn, which was the largest sailing ship in the world, last was seen drifting dangerously near a reef off the Tristan da Cunha islands far in the south Atlantic, ’ts sails reduced or furled and apparently not a soul aboard, Captain Kristensen said. Captain Kristensen, who visited Tristan in his search, said that he was convinced the ship had been abandoned or all of the crew f were ill. The ship still was in good condition when seen near the remote islands. The story of the Tristan da Cunha natives—whioh pictured a mystery ship without a man aboard—said that the Kobenhavn narrowly missed disaster on the reef, but finally, silently swung away with the current, and drifted off into the mists toward the Antarctic. In 1928 the New York state Baumes commission estimated that general crime, as distinguished from financial crime, costs $13,000,000,000 a year.
