RACKET RULER IS HUNTED IN MARLOW DEATH Promoter Kept SI.OOO He Collected for Ring, Police Believe. B't I mted Brest NEW YORK. July 9.—New York police today hunted a wealthy underworld ruler who allegedly purchased the life of Frank Marlow, former fight promote- and racketeer. He was said to have left New York on the night of the killing by his hired gunmen. “If the man we seek does not give himself up soon I will announce his name.” Grover Whalen, police commissioner, said. “He is the head of a powerful group of Italians in this city and we know he had extensive dealings with Marlow.” Whalen's new theory is that the slain man was a collector for a blackmail ring, which supposedly had fixed upon a prominent boxing manager as its victim. Marlow was told to collect SI,OOO. Marlow, known to have been in straitened circumstances, withheld the SI,OOO from the gang. Marlow was taken to the country, stripped of his clothes and left to think it over. The warning apparently failed to frighten Marlow into turning over the SI,OOO, so he was called from Le Tavernelle restaurant on the night of June 24 and taken on another “ride” on which he was killed. PLOT TO GIVE - CAROL THRONE STIRSEUROPE Vast Political Conspiracy in Rumania Bared by Arrest of Leaders. By T'nited Press BERLIN. July 9.—Central Europe and the Balkan states were stirred today by startling disclosures of a vast political conspiracy to overthrow the present Rumanian regime and to establish a military dictatorship aiming to install former Crown Prince Carol to the throne now occupied by his young son, Michael. More than 200 arrests have been made, including many persons high in Rumanian official and military affairs. The plot was planned several months by a number of influential political leaders headed by Paul Angelescu, former minister of war. The Rumanian government had known of the plot for some time, it is said, and began making arrests a few hours before the “putsch” was to begin swinging into action. But the plotters, according to reports to the Berlin Vossische Zeitung, hoped at the first blow to capture the Bucharest postoffice and other public buildings. Garrisons have been ordered to remain in readiness throughout Rumania. It was learned the conspirators secretly obtained arms and ammunition. Hint Reconciliation By Vnited Press BELGRADE, July 9.—Princess Helene of Rumania, mother of the Rumanian boy king, Michael, and wife of former Crown Prince Carol, proceeded to the summer residence of King Alexander of Yugoslavia today for a short visit. It still is rumored here that Carol was expected to meet her there in an effort to reach a reconciliation. Many authorities say that an alligator does not reach its full adult growth until it is between 40 and 60 years old. Their normal life is said to be between 100 and 200 years.
