ETCHER BANK CREATES NEW SAVINGS TRUST Pays More Than 5 Per Cent Interest: Shares Tax Exempt. Protection for investment funds through diversification and tax exemption ;s the claim made for anew form of investment announced today by the Fletcher Savings and Trust Company. The company today began offering to investors certificates evidencing the holders beneficial interest in a special trust fund, originated and developed bv officers of the company, alter lone study of bond and stock conditions. The new investment is offered in amounts as small as SSOO. is free from personal property tax in Indiana, according to the bank's counsel, and should average a return of more than 5 per cent, bank officials asserted, not guaranteeing this return, however. Center In Trust Funds The plan centers in a trust fund to be held by the City Bank-Farm-po Trust Company of New York, subsidiary of the National City bank. The Fletcher Savings and Trust Company has assigned and delivered to the New York Trust Company $500,000. which has been invested in bonds of some fifty different issues. These and other bonds bought ns these mature will be held by the City Bank-Farmers Trust Company as a trust fund for the holders of the new certificates. Each of these certificates evidences the holder's beneficial interest in the New York trust fund to the extent of a certain number of the 1.000 shares or units into which the fund is divided. Interest Semi-Annually Interest on the bonds in the New York trust fund will be collected by the trustees as it falls due, and on each Jan. 15 and July 15 a check will be sent each certificate holder j covering his proportionate share of J the. net income from the trust fund for the six months ending on the j preceding Jan. 1 and July 1. respec- i tively. July 1. —The national origins basis for America's selective immigration quota system became effective today over the protest of President Herbert Hoover, who opposed the plan as impracticable. The outstanding changes effected by the new system of allocating quotas are to reduce potential German immigration by half and to increase British and northern Irish immigration by about the same margin. Immigration from Scandinavia will be reduced about one-third by the new program. Congress provided for the national origins quota system in the restrictive immigration bill of 1924. The new system is designed to proportion immigration in a direct ratio with the present racial origin of the American people. Canadian and Mexican immigration will continue unchanged by the national origins program. Under the new conditions, annual immigration from the Irish Free State will be 17,852, instead of 28.567; Sweden, 3,314. instead of 9.561; Norway, 2.377, instead of 6,453; Denmark, 1,181, instead of 2.789; Poland. 6,524. instead of 5.892; Belgium. 1.304. instead of 512, and Italy, 5.802, instead of 3.845. attend" frat meeting Seven Indiana Men Registered at Tau Omega Convention. Thirty-seven persons, who partook of the wedding cake at the marriage of Louis Assaro and Edith Comara, were confined to bed today by food poisoning. The home of the bridegroom's father, where the wedding and the feast were held, was transformed into a hospital to accommodate the stricken newlyweds, their families and guests. Nine children were among those affected by the poisoning. Physicians and health authorities learned two wedding cakes had been prepared by a bakery. Crumbs of the cakes’ colored frosting were collected for analysis.

Elliott, prosperous banker, developed today into one of the most baffling eases on police records here. Somewhere between here and Passaic. Elliott, driving his automobile, disappeared last Wednesday. None of his relatives, friends or business associates has been able to explain why he should have left home voluntarily, and today the belief became stronger that he had been kidnaped. At the Hobart Trust Company, Passaic, where Elliott was vicepresident and treasurer, his accounts were found to be in excellent condition. His home life was said to have been happy and he had no known enemies. “The further we go into this, the more mysterious it becomes,” said Wililam H. O'Neill, chief of police. Elliott’s disappearance came at the time that the state bank examiners were making their regular examination of the books of the Hobart Trust Company, but the mystery became greater when the bank’s finances were found to be in splendid shape. On Wednesday, Elliott drove his daughter, Ruth, to school, and then turned the car toward Passaic, presumably to go to the bank. Several friends reported seeing him pass and said he waved gayly at them. Frank C. Campbell, an official of the bank, denied Elliott resigned. He j' said a successor had been appointed I immediately because Elliott had ! signed the checks and the bank would be unable to do business if someone did not take over the missing man’s duties.
