PHONOGRAPHS AID EXPLORERS IN ABYSSINIA American Expedition Wins Confidence of Tribes. r;-- r ;vr,< NAIROBI. Africa. June 27Modern electrical and sound devices helped an expedition from the Field Museum. Chicago, to win the confidence of the reticent Abyssinians, nd their support during explorations in that country. The expedition of seven Americans has returned here after several months in the heart, of practically unknown regions in Abyssinia. The explorers brought, with them trange stories of their experiences among the Abyssianians, who are known tfor their * dislike of foreigners. Tile Americans won the interest and confidence of tribesmen by demonstrating phonographs and electric lights, and also secured the friendship of Ras TafTari. the nation's king regent since last October. Ras Taffari. who has been active in transforming the political system of hLs country, also extended a '•arm welcome to the Americans and sanctioned their explorations in Abyssinia, besides asking them to assist in bringing outside capital with which to develop the famous King Solomon gold mines. Members of the expedition said the wealth of Abyssinia is almost unbelievable. They were shown the second largest deposits of platinum in the world as well as the King Solomon mines.
