POINT TO POINT RADIO SERVICE TO 8E TESTED Private Stations Seek to Keep Right to Broadcast to Each Other. BY I.EO R. MCK Times Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON. June 25.—The authority.of the federal radio commission to regulate and restrain a private point to point radio service will be tested in the District of Columbia court of appeals in a suit which may set a precedent for future regulation of this means of communication. The By-Products Coal Company of Bypro;. Ky., and the Burton Coal Company of Cleveland, having a working arrangement, have since September 1924, operated radio stations WLG at Bypro and WLI at Cleveland. The federal radio commission a month ago ordered that public interest, convenience and necessity, was not being served thru the point to point broadcast system and refused to renew the station licenses. The two companies argue that the character of the country between Bypro and Cleveland is such that maintenance of communication by other means than radio is extremely difficult and at times impossible. They- contend that the radio furnisher. the only meansof controlling the output of a group of mines near Bypro and that without the radio 'he “entire community located at Bypro will be at times completely isolated from the rest of the world and at other times communication facilities will be extremely limited and inadequate.'’ LARGE HOTEL CHAINS REPORTED IN MERGER Bowman-Biltmore and United Svsj tents Operate 20.000 Rooms. 6.7 f nitrd Prr.< NEW YORK. June 25.—A merger of two of the largest, hotel systems in the United States, the BowmanBiltmore chain and the United Hotels Company, was reliably reported impending today. The deal, which will combine total assets of about $75,000,000. and provide 20.000 guest rooms, involves thirty-five hotels. The famous Bowman-Biltmore hotels in New York City, the Biltmore. Commodore. Murray Hill and Belmont, and the noted United hotel here, the Roosevelt, will come under single management.
