SOCIETY DEATH MYSTERY HALTS VILLAGE TRADE Final Attempt Is Planned to Solve Slaying of Girl and Ex-Fiance. BY HARRY R. ZANDER t nitfij MafT Corrupnnd^nl MOORESTOWN, N. J., June 12. Bn.ciness virtually halted today as the residents of this Quaker village prepared for the final attempt to *olve the mystery of who shot Ruth M. Wilson, society girl, and Horace Roberts Jr , her former fiance. From Philadelphia Thursday will come Dr. William S. Wadsworth, expert pathologist, who will bring to bear all his scientific skill in an attempt to determine whether police were correct in their assertion that. Roberts killed the girl in her home and then took his own life sometime near midnight of June 1. Every one who might conceivably know anything about the tragedy has been summoned to the inquest, and it appeared likely that all except one person would respond. That, person was Mrs. John O. Wilson, the dead girl's mother, who is under medical treatment for nervous prostration. Already Coroner Benjamin F. Farner has issued orders to disinter the bodies of Roberts and Miss Wilson so Wadsworth may attempt to solve a crime that has kept southern New Jersey aroused for a fortnight. Dr. Wadsworth will try to learn whether it, was possible for Roberts to fire three shots into his own head without being rendered unconscious by the first or second bullet. and thus be unable to fire the third. If the pathologost finds that Roberts could not. have fired a third shot, officials must take up the search for a murderer of the couple. George N. Hilan. prosecutor, and Ellis Parker, chief of county detectives, already are on record as believing that the crime was a clear case of murder and suicide. June 12.—Miss June Nevons, 21, entered a downtown restaurant and ordered an elaborate meal. She took her time eating and the waiter noticed that she apparently relished each bite. When she finished, she calmly lifted a bottle of poison to her Ups and drained it. Emergency hospital physicians saved her life.

Policeman Dies

.f. T. O'Brien Funeral services for John T. O'Brien, 23 years old, city motorcycle policeman, will be held at 9 Thursday morning at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral. 22 OIL GUSHERS BRING BOOM TO ILLINOIS TOWN Engineers, Firemen. Day Laborers ‘Come Into’ Riches. DUPO. 111.. June 12.—This little southern Illinois railroad town was on the boom today. Twenty-two oil wells were gushing forth their streams of "black gold'’ and prospects of undreamedof wealth. The product of the twenty-second well, just "shot'’ here Monday, was appraised at approximately $1.05 a barrel. All the wells are down 500 feet. Some yielded 1,000 barrels a day. Engineers, firemen, switchmen and section hands found themselves "coming into the money. - ’ They sold while the selling was good. Others were "kicking themselves all over town” because they were cautious and failed to let go. How long it would last caused much speculation. Some thought it would soon play out. Others figured it would be good for years. One promoter went so far as to say that the field ran under the Mississippi and through St. Louis. “St. Louis,’’ he declared, "is sitting on a whole pool of oil.” Cuts Throat, Jumps Into Hot Water CHICAGO. June 12.—When William Witt Jr.. 34. a printer, decided to commit suicide, he made certain he would do a good job. He slashed his throat, then jumped into a bathtub full of scalding water.
