NEW YORK GIRL PICKED NATION'S BEAUTY QUEEN Statuesque Blonde Wins Miss United States Honor at Galveston. Bu Un<*c>t Prut* GALVESTON, Tex., June 11 Eleven beautiful girls, representative* of eleven nations, will participate tonight in a contest of charms to decide which of them shall be awarded the title of beauty queen of the universe. To the list of entries from ten foreign countries the name of Miss Irene Ahlberg was added Monday night when she was selected from a group of thirty-four contestants as the most beautiful girl in the United States. Miss Ahlberg. a statuesque blonde, was Miss Greater New York in the preliminary judging and becomes Miss United States for the final test. An enthusiastic assemblage of 5,000 crowded the auditorium as Miss United States was crowned the j evening’s queen of beauty. The girls paraded the horseshoe walk in a setting of rolling waves produced artificially by electric lights. They appeared twice, first in evening gowns and later in bathing suits. The judging was on the basis of beautv of face, perfection of figure., grace and personality. Miss Ahlberg is 5 feet 6 inches in height, has blue eves, dark blonde hair and reminded many of Miss Dorothy Britton, who in 1927 won j the title of Miss Universe The foreign countries represented ; by contestants at Galveston's fourth j annual pageant of pulchritrude are , Spain. Germany. France. Holland.! Austria. England. Luxemburg, Ru- j mania. Brazil and Cuba Vitola Relieves Local Salesman of Grave Stomach and Liver Disorder Heart Weakness.
