TWO FIGHT FOR PAY ON PAUPER ATTORNEY SUIT Royse and Claycombc Open Court Battle for S2OO Salary. The lecal duel between John \. Royse and Lloyd D. Claycombe. attorneys. as to which of them will be paid S2OO as Marion county pauper attorney in criminal court was reopened today before Henry Dowling, special circuit judge, after Claycombe filed a motion to correct circuit court records in the ease. Claycombe claimed that Royse was permitted to intervene in his suit to mandate County Auditor Harry Dunn to pay him the salary by Judge Harry O. Chamberlin before he disqualified himself without any hearing or notice. The petition also asked that Royse bo barred from the privilege of intervenor in Claycombe's litigation. “Do you know of any changing, altering or doctoring of records to change dates in your court?" Homer Elliott, attorney for Royse asked, after it was alleged by Cl?| comb's counsel that the statement granting the Royse’s petition was inserted later. “I would not tolerate such a thing and it most positively did not occur." Chamberlin said. "I strongly resent any suggestion that might make it necessary to ask that question.” Royse was appointed pauper attorney by Criminal Judge James A. Collins Jan. 1 and Claycombe was named by county commissioners. Claycombe appeared in court once, but then Collins named Royse in each case. Shortly after this. Claycombe's pay warrant was approved by commissioners but turned down by Dunn while Royse was refused pay by both commissioners and Dunn.
