PIERCE BURIAL SERVICE TO BE HELD IN CITY Body of Aged Barrister, World Traveler. Will Reach Here Monday. The body of Henry D. Pierce. 31 Indianapolis barrister and world traveler, who died Thursday at Atlantic City, N. J., will arrive in Indianapolis Monday. Tentative funeral arrani&ments set burial sendees for Tuesday. An attack of bronchial pneumonia caused Mrs. Pierce's death. Several months ago/ while on a tour of Centra] America, Mr. Pierce became ill. He recovered but early last week was again stricken. Wife at Bedride Douglas Pierce and Mrs. Frederic Krull. son and daughter, and the widow, Mrs. Henry D. Pierce, will accompany the body to this city. Mrs. Pierce was at the bedside of her husband at the time of his death. Mr. Pierce, the son of Winslow S. Pierce, ftfrmer state controller and at one time acting governor of California, was graduated from Princeton university. He studied law' with his uncle. Thomas A. Hendricks. former Vice-President of the United States. He also studied medicine. He was a relative of Franklin Pierce and a life-long friend of Ofrover Cleveland. During his early life in Indianapolis, Mr. Pierce warred on the utility companies for the mutilaton of trees with their wires. He led the movement, to abolish fences around city homes. On Canal Commission At the time a Nicaraguan canal was proposed, Mr. Pierce was named as a member of a commission to investigate feasibility of the project. He also served as a member of the national rivers and harbors congress. When King Edward of England was crowned in 1902. he was the only Hoosier present at the ceremonies. Mr. Pierce was a classical scholar and possessed one of the finest libraries in Indiana at his home. 1415 North Meridian street. He had made more than forty trips to foreign countries. - HARMONY IN INDUSTRY ADVOCATED BY OXNAM Pe Pauw President Crges 1 nboj F.c Treated Humanely. Scientific and humanitarian treatment of American labor problems was advocated by President G. Bromley Oxnam. De Pauw university. before the Indianapolis building congress Thursday at the Lincoln. Dr. Oxnam forecast the supremacy of the labor movement in Great Britain at the next election. If you teach people to settle their international problems by warfare, you are teaching them to settle inrbistrial problems the same, - ’ Dr. Oxnam said Robert Frost Daggett, president, announced a smokpr meeting June 12. M. J. Biddle, Detroit, will explain the operation of the Allied Construction Industries credit bureau. NEW DIRECTOR NAMED BY MERCHANTS' BODY Albert Zoher Made Member of Beard, Others Re-elected. Albert. Zoller of Charles Mayer ACos., is a new’ director of the Indianapolis Merchants’ Association. He was elected and fofir others reelected to the board at the thirtyfirst annual dinner of the association at the Marott hotel, Thursday night. The directors re-elected are: G. A. Gay. Pettis Dry Goods Company; E. A. Kahn, Peoples Outfitting Company; C. A. Taylor. Taylor Carpet Company, and George Vonnegut, Vonnegut Hardware Company. These and hold-over directors will meet soon to elect 1929 officers. The entire membership of thirty attended tire dinner.
