CITY TO EXTEND MERIDIAN FROM CANAL NORTH $25,000 Will Be Spent on Project to Be Finished by September. Plans for extending Meridian street from the canal to Kessler boulevard were begun today by J. E Perry, park board engineer. The board Thursday ordered improvement of the 1,200-foot strip to provide an outlet and uKe the SIOO,OOO bridge over the canal, which was built by county commissioners on the promise that the street would be extended by the city. The park board had an eightyfoot right of way over the property, permitting a fifty-foot roadway. Park Engineer Perry said it will be sixty days before bids can be let. A bond issue of about 825,000 will be authorized for the work. Completion is expected about Sept. 1. Consider Farm for Park President John E. Milnor, Adolph G. Emhardt, board member; Edward B. Ftaub Jr., park attorney; Emgineer Perry, and Superintendent Walter Jarvis compose a committee to make a written report on the board's impression of the Laurel tock farm. Prisoners Try to Hook Key P-u Timrs Sprrinl GREENCASTLE. Ind., May 24.—Sheriff Edward Eiteljorge of Putnam county has discontinued the the practice of leaving a jail key hanging on the hall wall for convenience of Greencastle police officers. Only the quick work of Mrs. E'teljonre prevented a jail break when James Morgan and Lawrence Shank, penal farm fugitive, obtained the key with an improvised hook. Hearing the key scraping on the floor, . Mrs. Eiteljorge notified the sheriff, who recovered it. But from now on city officers will have to get the sheriff out of bed when they want to lock up prisoners at night.

‘ACTS’ COST IS $19,157 Copies of 1929 Laws Cost State 63 Cents Each. The 30,000 copies of the acts of the 1929 legislative cost a fraction over 63 cents each, a total of $19,157, according to J. Otto Lee, secretary of the state printing board. Two years ago the cost was for each volume was a fraction over 53 cents. An additional appropriation of $5,000 made by legislature for the printing of the acts was not needed and will be turned back to the general fund.
