COUNCIL URGED TO REDISTRICT CITY PRECINCTS Aldermen May Act Monday! To Relieve Congestion in Voting Places. Redistricting city precincts for the fall election will be discussed by city councilmen Morfday night, Paul Rathert, election committee chairman, announced today. Rathert's committee is making a preliminary study of the congested conditions in many of the 237 precincts. The ideal size precinct would be 500 voters but many have as many as 1.400. Rathert said. The 1929 appropriation for the fall election was $34,000, making it necessary to hold down the number of additional precincts. It costs about $l5O a precinct, Rathert said. O’her members of the election committee are John P. White, Meredith Nicholson, Albert Meurer and Herman P. Lieber. .Manager League Urges Change The Indianapolis City Manager League discussed the need for changing the boundary lines ! Wednesday. The league directors ; recommended to Councilman White, executive committee member, that I council redistrict the precincts so that none will contain more than 750 voters. City council and Circuit Judge Han v O. Chamberlin will name the j election commissioners as soon as the new laws are promulgated. The ! league expressed interest in seeing ! that men are named who will assure a fair election. Ask Portable Booths Use Use of portable voting booths was ; suggested by Henry L. Dithmer, Polar Ice and Fuel Company presi- i dent, ns a means of avoiding lorat- j ing voting places in the edge of a precinct. “This plan is used successfully in j Ohio and many other states. It I would mean a great saving to the j county and enable the commission- ! ers to hold elections in the open,” Dithmer said. •GHCST’ TOWN RETURNS TO LIFE FOR ONE DAY 500 Former Residents Come Back to Dead City for Reunion. Bu l nitt'if Brest TRAVER, Cal., May 16.—One ot California's best known “ghost” towns returned to life here with a population of approximately 500 citizens for one day, when visitors came from as far north as Sacramento and as far south as Los Angeles. “Citizens” Is the prop"r word to describe the returning population, tor all of the 500 persons were former residents, gathered in reunion. It was the forty-fifth anniversary of the founding of Traver, once a 3.000 population center of a great grain and horticultural area. Every building in the town has disappeared. The last to go was die Del hotel, burned to tha ground last year, together with a little store. Alkali was responsible for Traver’s demise as a municipality. The chemical came to the surface with irrigation, killing grain, orchards and vineyards. FORDS DONATE SIOO,OOO Cable Pledge to Campaign for Detroit Charities. P, ./ failed Pi ■ ns DETROIT.
