has been awaiting orders. Shortly after Charles Adams*, secretarv of the navy, took over the office of Curtis D. Wilbur, friends of Magruder formally recommended his assignment to his old post. Unwilling to pass final judgment, upon a question ’.'hich involved rescinding an order of his predecessor Secretary Adams passed the question to the White House. The matter since has been returned to t lie navy department without a presidential recommendation or order. White house officials decline to indicate whether the subject had gone to the President with a recommendation by Adams. In any event. Magruder s status remains unchanged. Naval officers today ascribed the failure of their reinstatement, move to the President's findings that Magruders health dictated against his reinstatement. Since his removal from Philadelphia. Magruder has been receiving regular pav without assignment. His record, aside from the charges arising out of his magazine publications. is reported by naval officials to be excellent. His removal by President Coolidge created a furore on Capitol hill, bringing Senator William Borah, among others to his defense with the statement: I wish we had a Magruder in rvyv department of the government.'* *3.000 KILLED BY QUAKES Fund of ? 100.000 Raised for Stricken in Kborassan. EARLY CHURCH FOUND First Century Synagogue in Hoiy Land l nearthed. 1 JERUSALEM. May 14.—A first century synagogue has been discovered at Jerash, Trans-Jordania, by the Yale-British school of archaeology joint expedition, the United Press learned today.
