Radio TIMES TO HELP BLOOMINGTON IN RADIO SURVEY Many Causes of Grief to Fans Are Revealed in Interference Hunt. Rcpcr 1 ' from W. A. Jacob*. Times Radio Interference Engineer, sent to Bloomington to investigate causes of radio interference in that city, indicate that Indianapolis is not the only sufferer from this scourge of the radio listener. Cold, damp weather, ideal for interference ha* brought out many causes of trouble that have been found by Jacoby and K. K. Jenson, who is assisting him. Arc lights, telephone lines and city power lines are proving to be the most troublesome causes of interference. Jacoby says. • Besides these causes are the regular trouble makers, such as flashing sign.-, motors, wires through trees air pumps and chargers. Installation of the dial telephone system at Bloomington is causing an unusual amount of trouble, Jacoby says. Anyone connected to a fifty-pair cable on the local telephone exchange can hear each of the other subscribers dial his numbers Considering the frequent calls made in a group of fifty telephones, this is a serious interference problem. Tire Radio Listener's Association of Bloomington lias reduced the membership fee for one year to half price during the stay of the two Times engineers.
