Last summer the federation met during the Olympic games to consider applications for records. At jfiat time a mark of 9 5-10 seconds, made by Charley Paddock under championship conditions, was placed before them for their approval. The approval was denied under the assumption that a watch, timed to tenths of a second, might not be infallible. Asa result the record book shows five men as official record holders at 9 6-10 seconds and Fadriock is recognized as having equaled the mark six times. Schupp also hurled a fine game, allowing only live hits, and the Blues were unable to score until the eighth stanza. Sheehan walked to start the winning rally and Knothc forced him al second. With Spurgeon batting, Schupp let go a ; wild pitch and then issued another walk. Kuhel bounced a single off Connolly's glove, scoring Knothe and sending Spurgeon to third, and Spurgeon scored when Connolly took too much time in making a throw to the plate. It was a bad inning lor both Schupp and Connolly. Eleventh Victory It was Kansas City's eleventh victory of thr new campaign against only two defeats and Eddie Zwllling's boys are looking mighty good up there on top of the A. A. perch. Only one of the Blue runs was earned, as Connolly for some reason took a nap and held tl)e ball while Spurgeon dashed home in the eighth after Knothc had scored. Three of the five hits off Schupp were scratches, and the Blues were lucky to beat him despite Sheehan's remarkable hurling. a ti a Peters’ snap throw caught Sprinz napping off lirst in the eighth after Connolly had doubled. a a u Tt was a clear day. but very, very cold. Players of both teams and the police band marched to center field preceding the contest for the fiag-rai.-mg ceremony. Mayor Beach tossed the first, ball. it tt Connolly’s double, the lone bingle j off Sheehan, came after one out. ' Metz popped to Kuhel and Sprinz drew a walk only to be caught off first, retiring the side. n it tt 11 warm weather had been on tap fbrrc would have been more than 17.000 on hand.
