1925. In that year the catch vas :i4 million pounds and 1926. 47 million pound , declining lo 4'2 million pounds m 1927. and 31 million pounds m 1923. Thus we are able, to observe the rise and fall of the catch from two rich year classes. Evidently unless another rich year da*, appears, the catch will continue downward to the forty year level between 1885 and 1925. Fortunately the 1927 year class appears to have been good but just how rich it is too early to estimate. In 1928. it contributed over 1.600.000 pounds of “tinker’’ sigo ’mackerel and this year's catch will reveal more definitely how abundant the 1927 brood is. This year the 1927 brood will bo 2-years-old. weighing about one pound, whereas the 1923 fish will weigh two pounds or more. < ivil War Veterans Dwindle I nihil I'n MADISON. APRIL WAS WARM Temperature Averaged 56 Degrees During Month. “Warmer and wetter’’ than normal were the characteristics of April weather as revealed today by the monthly summary of the weather bureau here. Ranging from 32 degrees to 32 degrees, April temperatures averaged 55 degrees, as compared with the normal 52.1 degrees. With precipitation on fifteen days, including six thunderstorms, rainfall amounted to 4.28 inches, as compared with April rainfall of 3.62 inches. On only one day, April 1. was there a trace of snow'. Normally eight-tenths of an inch is recorded. Despite the heavy rainfall, hours of sunshine exceeded normal. The year 2589 of the Japanese era, being the eighteenth year of the period Taisho, began on Jan. 1. 1929.
