UNION TRACTION WILL SPEED UP FREIGHT RUNS Switching Service Greatly Expanded; Station Will Be Opened. Important freight handling arrangements and changes incidental to the opening of a large new freight station on the property of the Indianapolis Industrial Center, Inc., and switching service therein by the Union Traction Company of Indiana are announced by F. D. Norviel, general passenger and freight agent. Schedules of the through overnight freight trains, known as the “airplane” freight runs are being speeded up to give dependable next day deliveries, either to or from Toledo and Detroit. No change will be made on the airplane run which leaves Indianapolis at 10:45 a. m. and arrives at Detroit at 6 o’clock next morning; however, the second airplane, which heretofore has left Indianapolis at 7 p. m., will leave the Union Traction freight house on Kentucky avenue at 4 p. m. and will be due to arrive in Toledo at 5 o’clock the following morning and at Detroit at noon on the following day after departure from Indianapolis. Connecting Track Installed
Service from Detroit and Toledo to Indianapolis will be correspondingly sped up, Norviel says, and the schedule will provide next day deliveries in Indianapolis from those points. The Union Traction Company has, through arrangements with the Indianapolis Industrial Center, Inc., installed a connecting track from its Anderson line to the tracks on the property of the Indianapolis industrial center. By wiring the tracks for operation of electric motor cars, it now is prepared to perform switching service between all buildings in the industrial center and between the industrial center and the Indianapolis Belt railway and the Anderson division of the Union Traction Company of Indiana. By this arrangement, steam railway equipment may be handled by the Union Traction Company to all points as far as Anderson. 5.000 Miles Linked A freight house of large dimensions, served by two tracks, will be used by the Union Traction Company as a public freight station on the property of the industrial center and shippers in the industrial center or in the district surrounding it, will have unsurpassed shipping facilities of either carload or less than carload freight. The new arrangement connects more than 5,000 miles of electric railways in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, with steam roads to all parts in the country.
